Meet Matthew Nicholson of On The Glow Up in Grand Prairie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Nicholson.

Matthew, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I graduated high school in 2015 and around that time I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I thought I was going to go to college and major in music or business but I couldn’t see myself going to school for another four years. Seeing all my friends go to school and pursue their career and also being lost in my thoughts caused me to experience sadness and anxiety. Looking for multiple business opportunities I decided to vlog my journey trying to figure out my life( I called the vlog series OnTheGlowUp).

As I started vlogging I got interested in the editing process and started playing around with different edits and concepts. I started posting my concept videos on twitter and some people started hitting me up to work with them. As I started making videos for others I quickly realized that I need to create a brand for longevity. I knew I wasn’t the only kid that was going through anxiety so I decided to create the brand around helping others get through their anxiety/depression.

Music really helped me through that time so I decided to create a collective full of musicians, videographers, photographers, and producers. With the help of Aman and Kyle, we have a team of 10-12 people that all collab with each other with the message that built On The Glow Up. We are striving to put out the best content that we can create in order to help others think, escape, and motivate people throughout there day to day life. Our slogan is “Always remember to respect the journey and always be On The Glow Up.”

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has been a couple of mental blockages but once I’ve built up my self-awareness everything has been flowing very well. I don’t do anything that feels like it would be forced because if I don’t vibe with it, I stay away from it. I’ll never put my self in a position of allowing others to have leverage over me or the OTGU family so we each stick to what we’re good at and figure it out as we keep moving.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
We are a collective/Media agency. We create quality content (Music videos, Ads, Photography, and beats.) We are proud of the fact that we have our authenticity to everything we create. Nothing that is made from us is normal, and that is because we stay in our world and don’t pay attention to what others have going on for them. The creativity and having the forethought before we shoot is what keeps us separate from a lot of other agencies.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Probably traveling. I would be able to think the way I think if it wasn’t for my parents taking me out to see different parts of the world. It allowed me to know that there are so many things going on outside of my small town.
