Meet Megan Luman of Dallas Brow Couture in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Luman.

Megan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got started in the beauty industry as a makeup artist. It was always my one creative outlet as a child and what I loved to do. I’m thankful that I had parents that encouraged me to pursue my passions.

Growing up in Indiana, there weren’t a lot of opportunities to have a freelance makeup career but I found a seasoned makeup artist to train with and then I worked at the Mac counter for about a year. Then at age 24 (2007), I moved to Miami Beach, FL to pursue my dreams. With a strong work ethic and a whole lot of faith, I began working in the industry fairly quick. Back then, there wasn’t social media like there is today, so my approach was very “grassroots”—going out and meeting people, always following up, cultivating relationships with clients and potential clients. If I was going to succeed, it was up to me.

Miami proved to be very good to me and my career. I grew so much as an artist and was blessed to work with so many amazing people and projects. However, after several years there, I began looking for a more balanced life and ended up in Dallas, where I met my husband only a few weeks later.

About 3 years ago, I heard about this thing called “microblading”. I didn’t quite understand what it was and so I started researching it a lot. I have always been interested in services that look natural and this seemed like something I would be passionate about. During my research, I found a company here in Dallas that teaches the traditional Korean technique, and I knew that it was the best of the best.

As a professional makeup artist for over 12 years, eyebrows have always been such an important feature to me. They tell the story on your face, they show your emotions and frame your eyes. Those that have great eyebrows, typically take them for granted, but for those that don’t (and are possibly missing them completely) it can make or break your entire face/look. I think I am good at what I do because I am a perfectionist and I pay attention to every little detail. One individual hair stroke can change the whole shape and look.

Most of my business in Dallas has been referral-based and I love my clients here. I feel honored to be a small part in making them feel confident and beautiful. I also still keep very busy with my makeup business, traveling quite a bit. I love being diversified and offering two services that have so much synergy.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s definitely not always been a smooth road. But that’s the beauty of it all. I have made mistakes and adjusted along the way. I have started over from moving to different cities and that is definitely tough after putting in all the hard work to build something. But it has built character and taught me who I am and who I am not!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dallas Brow Couture – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I started Dallas Brow Couture to provide the service of 3D Eyebrow Embroidery (aka Microblading) I practice the traditional Korean technique and my cosmetic pigments are meant for skin implantation. My 12+ years as a professional Makeup Artist has given me the expertise to create a beautiful balanced eyebrow for the face. I am known for being conservative and a perfectionist.

I am most proud of my Giving Back program. I have had many clients who have lost their eyebrow hair due to cancer, alopecia, and even stress. You can submit yourself or a loved one for a free treatment and I choose one per month!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am looking forward to helping more people with what I do. Those that have great eyebrows typically take them for granted. But for those that have very little (or even nothing) it is a huge burden. I feel so blessed just to be a small part in making someone feel confident and beautiful.
