Meet Melissa Campos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Campos.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I first discovered designing when I shared an office with my amazing marketing co-worker. I was working at a law firm, and when I had completed my duties as a legal assistant, I would help her with creating marketing items for the firm. I left that job and moved across the country with my husband. I started my own designing/creating adventure when I stopped working to be a stay-at-home mom. Living in a different state with no family or friends, I used designing as an outlet. I currently work in the legal field and love what I do, but absolutely nothing compares to the excitement of managing your own business and showcasing your own designs.

Please tell us about your art.
I started creating invitations and transitioned to focusing more on Military Homecoming signs. I also create custom shirts, party decorations, and keychains. I focus more of my designs on family and military. I focus on these because I can relate. I was a military wife for seven years, and my husband was deployed twice. I know that feeling of getting things ready for your loved one to come home and that initial sign is meaningful. I love being apart of that. I am a proud wife to my high school sweetheart and mother to my son. Family is a huge part of who I am, and if I can cater to other families who love personalization, that actually brings me joy.

What do you think about the conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
There are many people I follow on Instagram from all over the US who encourage me.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
We are currently on Instagram and Facebook (@melissasdesignsco) and Etsy (MelissasDesignsCo).
