Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Dieterich.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started as a wedding photographer on the side of my graphic design job. When they laid me off I decided to do photography full time. I did weddings thru having my first son and decided they were too much work and time away from my family.
I started to do a few maternity and newborn sessions for friends and ended up loving it. The more I did the more I would get bookings for. Several years later I’m doing a lot of maternity, newborns, and babies thru the first year and loving it. It doesn’t even feel like work sometimes and I can’t wait for each session to come. I definitely feel like I’ve found my calling and can’t imagine doing anything else.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I struggled with pricing a few years back, when I raised it. I was slower than I would have liked, but that has luckily changed over the last year and now I’m back to being busy.
Melissa D Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a newborn, maternity and baby photographer. I specialize in newborns.
I think I’m most proud of my experience and patience with newborns. My style is neutral, organic, and simple and that sets me apart from a lot of newborn photographers in the area.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Having a client travel over 4 hours a few times just to use me again for her maternity and newborn sessions since she moved.
