Meet Michele Wood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Wood.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michele. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My husband actually got me my first camera about 13 years ago. He would always tease me about how I was constantly taking pictures non-stop with my phone and how I should use a real camera. My love of photography took off from there, more than either of us would have imagined. My husband has upgraded my camera several times over those years in support of my passion but when he got me my first DSLR, a whole new world opened up with my obsession with photography. I always had my camera on me and took pictures for friends and family every chance I could throughout the years, all while learning more and more along the way. The love of it just grew the more I learned, which eventually led to me quitting my job of 12 years to start my own business. I now have a newborn studio at my home that I have poured my heart into and spend my days photographing children, high school seniors, and family portraits.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I am not sure there is such a thing as a smooth road with anything in life that truly matters. I have always been my biggest critic, which has at times caused me to doubt myself but has also been what ends up pushing me to get better. It takes time to get good at anything and that was the hardest part for me, I wanted to know and learn everything right away. I am blessed to have my husband and family believe in me and continually encourage me over the years. It has taken years of working a full-time job, doing free sessions, staying up late editing, and learning everything possible, all while keeping up with my kids and our household. It was a struggle balancing it all but completely worth it because now, I love the work I create.

Please tell us about Michele Wood Photography.
I am a portrait photographer with a focus on documenting all the aspects of family life to preserve for generations to come. I capture portraits in every stage from newborn all the way up to high school seniors and annual family portraits. I am very much a posed photographer I want my clients to remember their loved one’s features, smiles, and personality with the help of my work. It is truly an honor when anyone chooses me as their photographer and I do my best to customize each session to what they might have in mind for their portraits. My goal is to build relationships as I get to know each family and look forward to getting to see each of them grow and change throughout the years! I am in business to support my family but I truly believe that our talents and passions are a blessing so they should be used as such. I give a discount to all military personnel, first responders, and teachers to thank them in a small way for all they do for us.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
The only thing I can honestly say I would change is how long it took me to start following my heart to do something I loved rather than doing what was comfortable. Once I made the choice to quit my job of 12 years to focus on my own photography business, our whole family dynamic improved. I now have more time for the people and things I truly care about. It has not been an easy road but I have been so much happier while pursuing my passion.
