Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Torres.
Miranda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in the IEP Program as a young girl, I felt there was nothing I was truly good at or in love with.
My learning disability and hard of hearing disability caused me to struggle in all of my classes, and I felt I had nothing to look forward to in my future career wise or lifestyle wise.
At this time, I struggled with depression and crippling anxiety as a young girl in middle school and into high school because of past abuse as a child. I never knew how to express all of my emotions, and trials to anyone because I felt so at a loss and out of touch with who I was or who I wanted to be.
It wasn’t until a particular art class I was taking in high school that I began to find out what I really loved to do. And it wasn’t until I met my art mentor that I began to find out just how much I was a natural at what I really loved to do! Art! I felt so confident with my new found love that I went on to study art in college, and teach art to other disabled students soon after graduating.
Being a teacher of art allowed me to pass on that inspiration I received from my art teachers and mentors. It was even more of a gift to give back that inspiration than it was when I once received it.
Art, since then, has been the one constant in my life that I find my most joy and peace. For me, art flows so naturally and it never feels like a tedious task or a burden in any way. I feel I can communicate any and all feelings, thoughts, and ideas through my art to others. I never thought I could do any of those things before I had art in my life. Without art, I feel utterly lost.
Everyday, I want to inspire others that art can heal, and art can rescue the mind, heart, and soul.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
By no means! It has been a winding road but a road I would take again and again. It has all made me who I am today.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a freelance artist who is self-branded! Always growing and always working to share my art as much as I can. I specialize in acrylics, oils, watercolors, and many other paint forms. I also specialize in many forms of drawing such as graphite, pen and ink, marker, and charcoal. I also love mixed media forms, sculpture, wheel throwing, etc.! You name it. Honestly!
What separates me from others is that I passionately wish to make others fall in love with my art as much as I love making it. I so badly want to talk and connect with every person that comes across my art. I have a very emotional way of approaching my art, and I always hope to ensure those emotions into others.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Passion and emotion, for sure!
