Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Zuniga.
Monica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always had the habit of adding my own twist on to almost everything I would wear. I also am one to have an eye on how to personalize an item to make it a little more special for someone.
Two years ago, I decided to bite the bullet and see if I could start taking the steps to make my dream a reality of making designs for clothes. My husband and I took the leap and invested in everything I would need to get my custom t-shirts, and other apparel business started.
After getting all the machines needed, I had to come up with a way of getting word of mouth started. I decided to take a risk and offer custom designs on t-shirts for little to almost nothing profit along with free at home delivery. Just so people could see my work and the quality of customer service I provided.
Even though, I ended up probably spending money instead of profiting by doing this marketing method, it was the smartest thing I could have done! Word of mouth is what has had Mona’s Designs & Creations going strong for these past few years come Jan.
Has it been a smooth road?
I wouldn’t say it has been a rough a road per se, but I will say it has been a juggling act at times. With my husband being a superintendent and being in a demanding position, I try to make things less hectic here at home for him. Plus he practices with our daughter five times a week after work.
Our daughter plays travel softball, so with lessons, practice and weekend road trip tournaments, I’ve had to try to find the balance of being able to work everything in and not get overwhelmed. Also, I am a mother of four children, which that alone is very demanding. It has taken, but I finally found that balance.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Monas’s Designs & Creations – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
At Mona’s D&C, we make custom designs that can be placed on almost anything. Hats, shoes, clothes, mouse pads, helmets, umbrellas, plush toys… the list is endless!! I have orders that included only one item and huge business orders that include over 300 pieces. We cater to any type of event!
Whether it be 100’s of 5k marathon t-shirts, a baby announcement onesie or a front porch sign we can help make your vision a reality. We can create a design just as you imagined it or we can customize and create a design to fit the event. I feel what set Mona’s apart from everyone else is that I don’t just remake something.
I actually take the time you get a feel of what the customer is wanting along with what overall style they have in order to customize the designs to their liking but at the same time putting my creative twist to it. I can honestly say that I have never had a client that did not get what they asked for.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love most about the Dallas would be what I call the “Dallas pride.” It doesn’t matter if you live in North Dallas, South Dallas, etc, you will have people proudly representing Dallas as a whole. Whether its people with their Dallas Cowboy flags driving down the street or getting orders for customized “Dallas” shirts because they are going to visit another city, the love and pride people have for Dallas is truly inspiring!
Also the culture! Where I grew up was right in the middle of West Dallas and Oak Cliff in a small neighborhood what was called by residents as “La Loma.” Well with being so close to Downtown Dallas I was able to see the fast pace business side of Dallas along with the glitz and glam of a beautiful, growing city.
Also, being only minutes away from Oak Cliff I was able to grow up seeing more of our Mexican culture! With all the shops, restaurants, stores and neighborhood events, I am so glad I can go back and visit often and love that I can still find those mom and pop shops and love that the community has kept them open and going strong!
