Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say ‘struggles’ as much as ‘challenges’ more than anything. The challenge is being taken seriously, not only by your peers, but in the industry generally.  When I started The Benét Embry Show, I had 50 listeners only and I wanted immediate success. I am not the most patient person so I had to learn that which in itself was a ‘struggle’. The show really started to grow under Montanna Mitchem at Tha Afterparty Radio where I learned how to structure a radio show and show content. Now, working with legend Chris Jagger and Melissa Plaskoff, at On Air Media The Benét Embry Show boasters over 100k on FB and 37k followers on IG and has one the highest listenerships in the world.

For Benét Embry Films, the most challenging thing I had to deal with is people who say ‘they got you’ but don’t actually ‘got you’. I was even conned in the first film I directed by a so-called friend. You have to differentiate between ‘friendship’ and ‘business’, then realize that the two do not always mix at times and that is okay. The key is to build solid foundations with people you trust. Surround yourself with people that have that same passion and goals as you, Luckily, I have that with G.F. Ates Productions, JF Baliey Productions, Little Black Dog Films, 350 Productions, New Harlem Renaissance Productions and a few more.

As an individual artist (actor, writer, director) My greatest challenge is dealing with rejection. This road is filled with rejection. If you dwell on that rejection, the biz will get the best of you. You really have to want ‘it’ and love what you do. It’s not all glitz and glamor. This is work. You have to do your due diligence on the project and the organizations that are involved with it. There was a time when I wanted to quit, but after a conversation with my wife, I decided if ‘they’ wouldn’t give me a seat at ‘their’ table then not only would I build my own table, I would also build the building for my table to sit in. I would make my own platform. I have a semi stutter and at times (especially when I get excited), I get a little tongue-tied. Nobody would let me on their broadcast because of that, so I created The Benét Embry Show. When I kept getting rejected from one casting over and over again or replaced in other projects I had been apart of, I made my own platform when Mrs. Renda Ates presented me the opportunity to write, direct my first feature film and act in it as well (Love Torn Between Two) which is due out later this year. So, this business will humble you, but the key is to keep going, continually pick yourself up, be determined and stay true to God, your family, yourself and talents. Always remember that You determine who you are, not the business nor the people in it.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Benét Embry Show and The Benét Embry Films – what should we know?
What sets The Benét Embry Show apart from everybody is our authenticity and our objectivity, Me and my co-hosts are truly friends. I’ve been known James Cain for over 30 years. We grew up together. We have somewhat of the same beliefs, but we have different approaches to beliefs and or solution to whatever topic we are discussing. Nikki Jackson joined the show in 2016. She stepped in like a hurricane and brings a completely different view, not only as a female but just in general. So, when people listen to us, we give you the facts as they present themselves. We don’t tell you what to think or how. We present you the facts and let you make up your mind. I am the comedy, passion, and raw emotion of the show, James is the analysis and examination, Nikki is the compassion, empathy, and voice of reason (so to speak). All of that combined with intelligence, The Benét Embry Show will always give the listener a unique, broad, informative intelligent perspective on any topic we are discussing.

What sets Benét Embry Films apart is creativity. We don’t just tell you a story. We put you inside the story so you can feel it, experience it, live it. We won’t wrap a film in January then put it out in March. We pride ourselves in doing things in the right way, the professional way and then present it to you. You won’t see the same type of characters over and over again in our films. We take pride in working with not only mainstream artist but the local (for lack of a better word) artist but also the local (for lack of a better word) artist, providing them to the opportunity to showcase their talents on multiple platforms on a worldwide scale.

I suppose is what I am most proud of is with both businesses I have to ability to inspire, educate, communicate, entertain and help people. I believe a lot of things that are wrong in this country can be solved by communication. These platforms help people listen and communicate to different aspects of other people. These platforms help educate people on certain things they may not even know about, present them in way where it is entertaining but yet informative. These platforms help people with opportunities that aren’t normally given.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
