Meet Nan Walvoord of The Vintage House in Carrollton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nan Walvoord.

Nan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Shopping at The Vintage House in Historic Downtown Carrollton makes your heart smile! We are located in a PINK gingerbread house built in 1900.

I literally travel the world in quest of making The Vintage House a unique shopping experience and to gain valuable travel knowledge. I was a stay-at-home Mom until the “empty nest” was in sight, when I decided to combine my love of shopping and travel, The Vintage House was born. We are a true family business as you can find any one or more of my family members working behind the counter, posting social media, ordering our favorite products, refilling the party table and catching up on the latest happenings!

We don’t need much of an excuse for a party! We love to host special events as we are a place where people gather to laugh, share, relax and shop for gifts that will make people smile. Talking travel is also one of our favorite things.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No road is ever completely smooth. It was and is still a little hard to explain how so much “stuff” can be in a little “pink house”. There are actually three different floors when you get inside. In retail, it is always difficult to stay relevant to the times, be on trend and to have lasting appeal.

Today, the struggle comes from online shopping. Shopping local in brick and mortar stores will keep the shopping adventure alive. I always say, “when your relatives come to visit, you want to have someplace fun to take them. Walking across the room to your computer, just won’t cut it.”

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Vintage House story. Tell us more about the business.
The Vintage House specializes in unique gifts for every occasion. From baby to grandparents we’ve got you covered! We are a premier boutique to buy Vera Bradley, Kendra Scott, and Alex & Ani.

We are proud of the fact that our customers think we are a friendly place to shop, with a large selection of merchandise tastefully displayed. Our relationship with people who enter through our doors is much more important than the merchandise we sell.

Our entire staff is caring, compassionate, and happy to serve.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has not played a role in The Vintage House or life. We have all worked hard with a purpose to serve God through our relationship with others. This is the mission of our family and all who work here.
