Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Jackson.
Nicole, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had a deep love for exercise and nutrition. After having my son, I gained about 30 pounds in less than three months. I documented my weight loss on social media and soon after I started to get messages about being hired as a trainer or if I have a Bootcamp and nutrition facts.
That’s what really pushed me to start Fit Mom Bootcamp, I drafted up some flyers and made one to post on my social media, I hit the pavement with them. I put my flyers EVERYWHERE I spent my money. When I first started out I planned for it to just be something I do once a week to help other women out and motivate them.
My main focus and career at that time was working as a stylist. I had just gotten where I wanted to be in the Dallas fashion industry, I even had my first high profile client. But somewhere in that year my attention and passion shifted strongly to only wanting to do fitness and I’ve been content with it for almost six years now.
Currently, in my profession, I’ve retired Fit Mom boot camp and focus on private sessions, online training and nutrition guidance.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not even a little bit, one thing about being a self-employed trainer is the change in income from time to time and how poorly I planned my finances for the “slow spells,” every trainer has and will have periods like that it comes with the game but being prepared and learning how to market myself in different ways made a world of difference.
When I started out and made that my only source of income it was hard, I had clients sometimes quit or just have a slow season. My mind as a businesswoman has changed so much from five years ago. I’ve learned how important it is to offer different solutions to my clients for their busy schedule which is why I started online training.
A huge part in being a successful personal trainer is keeping your clients motivated and maintain professional at all times. Word of mouth is how I get 80% of my clientele so checking my energy before I start with my clients is a must! They sense it if my vibe is off that just knocked me out of possibly being referred to a friend or family member.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I encourage women and men to be the best they can possibly be as simple as that.
I’m not your typical built personal trainer I’m curvy, and I like that about myself, but I’m also in shape. Believe it or not but you can get down to that size two and still be unfit after you get there. I’m not in it to get you to the smallest you can get, I’m here to teach you how to get healthy, tone your natural curves and challenge your body to do things you didn’t even know it could do.
Meeting and encouraging women and creating new friendships with them. I’ve trained so many women over the years and still to this day keep in contact with most of them. I pray over my business and once you’re my client I pray for you too, my business is faith-based, I don’t do anything without Gods input.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas is a great place to start a personal training/nutrition business. It’s so many people here for starters, and it’s a large city.
Over the past four years, we’ve changed as a city on the way we think regarding our health it’s now a priority so with the great change it’s always someone looking to get guidance on how to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
Every three-four miles you’re running into a gym, healthy grocery store, running trail, vitamin shops, etc. I’m so proud of my city!
