Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Valentine.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After taking photography classes in college and practically spending all my time in the darkroom, I knew photography would be a part of my life forever. I was always “the girl with the camera” at every social scene in my teens and 20’s. I started my business 9 years ago, not knowing where it would take me. In the beginning of my career, I took portraits in every category to build my portfolio, then really honed in to the ones I truly loved to take.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth, at first it was more of a winding road with a few dips! But I believe every business faces a struggle of some kind. For me, moving from one state to another and having to re-build my entire client base from scratch was kind of a nervous process, especially since Dallas has so many photographers. I have been extremely fortunate to gain such great repeat clients, and some I can now call really good friends! My challenge at this moment is blogging, but I am definitely working on that 🙂
Please tell us about Vintage Bloom Photography.
Most of my work is concentrated on families, children, and couples/engagements. I also do small business portraits, teens, and headshots. Sessions are typically taken outdoors, but in-home and studio sessions are always available by request. I am in constant contact with each client from start to finish, offering advice on what to wear, best locations to fit their needs, etc. Every session with me is laid back and fun. And I have been known to hop like a frog or dance like crazy to make kids laugh in a session. It’s all worth it for the perfect shot!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
When I was little, my father would occasionally bring out his old slides and show all the photos he took when stationed in Korea. I loved hearing him talk about buying his first camera, making a makeshift darkroom, and saving up his money for film. I contribute my dad for my interest in photography for sure!
