Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikia Webster.
Hi Nikia, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Nik (also known as itsjustnikia), and I’m a 26-year-old content creator and web designer. I believe most of the experiences I’ve come to know as memories in this life can be summed up by ideals of self-preservation, reflection, and a subconscious commitment to ongoing personal development.
My story is still a work in progress, but getting here hasn’t been easy. My adolescence was full of wonder, confusion, pain, and joy, as well as a range of opportunities to explore a variety of creative outlets.
I left home at the age of 17, or rather, found myself with no other choice but to enter a presumed safe and productive space that would allow for growth. I had recently been released from a psychiatric hospital following my second suicide attempt, and I was actively working to define my sexuality and find a general sense of balance. This journey of self-discovery has been rooted in fear and poor decision-making; not only did I not know how to communicate with those around me, but I also didn’t have an accessible avenue of release.
This adds to the tension in an already tumultuous home situation. Despite what some might consider a major setback, I completed high school. Following graduation, I attempted college, marriage, and life but failed miserably for a variety of reasons. In 2018, I made the difficult decision to return home; I was fortunate enough to reside with my great aunt (the real MVP) and rebuild the areas of my life that could be restored. After months of mending family ties, many tears shed, and a lot of acknowledgments, I decided to head out to DFW to try again at adulthood.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d say my main challenge has been understanding self. In many cases, I did not trust myself enough to listen to my intuition, and I paid a high price as a result. Based solely on appearances, I frequently assumed the world around me knew more than I did. I sought advice from others simply because of their position or age, rather than ensuring that the options presented to me were truly the best for me – I moved erratically, irrationally, and with little thought. If I have one regret, it is that I rushed the process. I was always so eager to see the results that I frequently failed to secure the best outcome for myself.
We’ve been impressed with justnikia.com, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a passionate web developer with an eye for customization and best SEO practices. I have a knack for getting to know each client and making sure they are included in every build and, if desired, extended upkeep of their site. Every brand, business, or entity seeking to broaden their reach, in my opinion, requires a fluid and user-friendly website.
The “if you build it, they will come” philosophy may be effective in some situations, but it will not get you very far in the online world. You need a consistent strategy for attracting users to your website if you want to get real traffic. I specialize in curating the optimal combination of organic search, placement, social media, and other channels to ensure that your website receives the attention it deserves.
In addition to comprehensive web design, I provide a full range of professional audio editing services designed to set you up for success while saving you time and energy without sacrificing quality.
While based in Dallas, I work with clients from all over the country as well as abroad!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I once received an early birthday present from my mother, though I don’t recall the year. I’m a pretty big Pokémon nerd, and my mother bought me a purple Game Boy Advance with Pokemon Fire Red. This was the only gift my mother has ever purchased due to the fact that she suffers from multiple sclerosis (m.s.) a disease in which the immune system eats away at the protective covering of nerves. It’s a memory and a sensation I will simply never forget.
