Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelique Swann.
Angelique, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had an interest in beauty – when I was a little girl I always played in my friend’s hair and loved all things makeup! I was able to follow my dream to cosmetology school in high school, and was well on my way to graduation when my life took an unexpected turn. Troubles at home led to dropping out of cosmetology school; I finished my diploma and within the next year my beautiful daughter was born.
At this point, I launched my corporate career to ensure I had benefits and steady income to provide for my family as a single parent. Fast forward to my daughter’s graduation time, and I knew it was also time for me to decide my next path. I decided that skin and aging beautifully were more important to me than hair, so I enrolled into esthetic’s school and finally got my license in 2006. Even still, life doesn’t move in a straight line!
I worked freelance in the industry along with my corporate job for several more years. My father’s health started to decline so I was also taking care of him. I had my epiphany in mid 2013 that it was time to stop delaying the inevitable. I either needed to devote 100% of my time to my dream or give it up. I chose the former! I quit my corporate job and got a job full time in a spa.
Four months later I was working in a salon, which was a great starting point and gave me the flexibility to begin building my clientele and also care for my dad. Summer of 2014 amid contract negotiations that just didn’t serve me, I branched out on my own at a salon suite and Angelique Swann Skincare was born.
Now, I’m in my 5th year in business having been able to support myself for the last three, and have recently moved my practice in to a new loft at the South Side on Lamar. My clients are wonderful and I am literally living the dream that I had as a little girl. Being able to help others feel and look their best gives me great joy and satisfaction.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all! Building clientele, learning how to run a business, etc. are things they do not teach you in school. Thankfully my years working for other businesses helped me to have the basics down and I’ve also been fortunate to learn from others in my industry.

Angelique Swann Skincare & Beauty Solutions has a full array of services including skincare (facials and body treatments), eyelash services (eyelash extensions, lash lift, tinting), waxing/hair removal (facial and full body waxing, Brazilian – male & female), brow services (waxing, tinting) and makeup application/instruction. I’m also offering lifestyle/wellness services that include my exclusive BodyLove classes – a fun fusion of exercise with yoga – that help people rediscover their body and learn to love it and themselves.
I am known for my professionalism, impeccable customer service, positive energy, relaxed atmosphere and knowledgable practices. I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve been able to create such a beautiful business doing work that I love, with clients who are friends that I look forward to spending time with. I take pride in everything I do, and am always continuing my education in the industry and beyond.

I’ve had tons of help along the way! Everything from investing, bookkeeping, and marketing to build outs, branding and more. I can’t name everyone who deserves credit, but they know who they are! I love to keep my supporters close and take care of whatever services they need. Couldn’t have done any of it without them!
