Meet Olivia Davila

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Davila.

Olivia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, it all started about a year ago when I spoke with my adviser at the school I am currently in. I was in the process of transferring from community college to university. Prior to my transfer, I had switched majors three times. Growing up, I always had a passion in caring for others and it gradually grew when I got to high school. I attended a college prep high school and I was in their medical field. By junior year, my class got to work for a retirement home where we got to assist the elderly. By my senior year, I landed an internship at Baylor Scott and White Hospital. It was definitely a learning process working at a hospital making me second guess myself whether this career was meant for me or not.

However, I still gave nursing a try going into college. By my first year, I knew my heart was not content and therefore switched my major to Public Health. A semester into it I changed my major once again. Only this time, I went from Science to Business Administration. By the end of my second year of community college it was time to transfer to a university. I got accepted to the University of North Texas at Dallas and before the semester kicked off I spoke to an adviser to make sure everything was set to go. It was then when I made the last switched. After speaking to my adviser about my goals and dreams I made the change to Communications and Technology with a focus in Strategic Communication. In hopes to one day work for a fashion/beauty brand or company and help build their media.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
From changing my major three times and battling with my inner thoughts in whether “Am I good enough to become a social media influencer? What are people going to think?” I finally pushed myself to post. I may not be considered a social media influencer but I am my own person and my love for fashion and beauty will never fade away.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As of now, I am a full-time student at the University of North Texas of Dallas majoring in Communications and Technology with a focus in Strategic Communication. This summer I will be an intern for a company known as, YouMeAndEmilio where I will be working on their social media platforms and with Emilio himself. I am also a full-time employee for Omni Hotels where I work as a front desk receptionist. Aside from that, I am currently working on my personal Instagram blog where I get to express my sense of fashion, beauty tips, brands, and my favorite social media influencers! You can find me on Instagram as @oliviadavila1 where I share with my viewers fun spots, clothing pieces, and beauty tips. My friends were actually the ones to encourage me to start my personal Instagram blog as they noticed my interest for fashion and beauty. I am most proud of the growth my platform has grown and how acceptable and encouraging my viewers are. I believe what sets me apart from others is I am not your average person. I like to share things that others can relate to. Keeping my post as relatable as possible and easy to find.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being humble is a characteristic that I feel is most important for my success. Remembering my roots and always staying true to myself is essential for a successful life. Being able to be humble, strong, and share our true selves with others is what I find beautiful and real.
