Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Nguyen.
Annie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was just a young girl, my mom would take my hands and point to the whirls on my fingerprint and call them roses. “You have ten roses, so everything you create with these fingers will be beautiful.” She encouraged my love of aesthetics and a career in the field, which was contrary to the typical Asian parents wanting their children to be doctors.
I was lucky enough to be able to get my cosmetology license in high school. I honed my skills as a master hairstylist, product educator, and makeup artist. Despite having such a rewarding career, I felt something was missing. In 2006, my dad suffered a massive heart attack and three days later my mom had a stroke. I promised myself I would never be so scared and helpless again. With that in mind, I began my pursuits in medicine.
I graduated with honors from my TWU nursing. I worked at Plano Aesthetics as a surgery nurse for 6 years. My attending physician, Dr. Caruth, taught me so much about medical aesthetics and mentored my injection skills. I valued my independence and knew being a nurse practitioner would grant me this opportunity. Today, I am fortunate to work with the best in the aesthetics business: Dr. Grant Stevens and Dr. Steven Camp. My patients love my work because I spend time with them and listen to her aesthetics desires and goals. We work together to achieve natural looking results that are seamless.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I always tried to study twice as long and twice as hard as my peers. I never wanted to be caught in a scenario where I was under prepared or it was assumed I was not capable or smart enough. With that in mind, I overcorrected by working harder.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Orange Twist – what should we know?

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Dr. Caruth taught me the foundations of aesthetic medicine and the opportunity to practice. Dr. Louis Torres taught me internal medicine and an incredible mentor. Dr. Charles Wallace helped me hone my advanced injectables techniques. Last but not least, Dr. Camp he is a supportive and compassionate surgeon. He allows me to care for patients within my scope of practice. I am looking forward to receiving additional clinical pearls and advance injectables practice tips from Dr. Camp.
Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I experienced bullying in high school. The bully would leave threatening and demeaning messages on my home voicemail. At the time, I felt too ashamed and afraid to tell anyone. Bullying is not limited to school age children either; it commonly occurs between adults. It definitely hurts when people publicly put me down but I choose not to give my power away. When we hang on to resentments, we poison ourselves.
