Meet Paige Ellis of Pretty & Posh Cakes in Heartland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Ellis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have had many interests and hobbies from a very young age. I loved to paint, crochet, sew, write poetry and bake just to name a few. The earliest time of artistic expression for me was at the age of 2. I created my first work of art on the walls of our home using black shoe polish. It was beautiful by the way. From that point on, I was always busy creating something. However, creating art was always viewed as a hobby. So, instead of pursuing a career in the art/design field, I earned my BSN and started my career as a registered nurse. I absolutely loved being a RN. I love being able to help others and make a difference in their lives.

In 2016, my husband and I welcomed our first daughter into the world. After she was born I once again picked up the hobby of baking. I made her first birthday cake and realized that I was pretty good at creating custom cakes. I started watching cake decorating videos and read a ton of different articles regarding the science of baking. This small hobby quickly grew into an obsession and a passion. I started creating cakes for family and then for friends. Before I knew it, I was taking orders to make cakes for clients that I had never met! It was this moment that became the pivotal point for me to pursue creating custom cakes as a business. With the support of my loving husband, I stepped out on faith, became a stay-at-home mother and launched my business, Pretty & Posh Cakes.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing worth having in life comes easy. That is all a part of the process. Those moments that challenge you and make you want to give up are the same moments that shape and mold you into a better person. When you are starting your own business there are various elements that you need to be knowledgeable about. I believe that faith, hard work and persistence can take you a long way in life. What you put in to something is what you will get out of it in return. The artistic aspect of creating custom cakes and cupcakes definitely comes natural to me. I am able to learn different skills pretty fast. It’s also important to me that I never stop learning. I am always looking for ways to grow and expand my knowledge of running my business and creating edible works of art.

Pretty & Posh Cakes is known for creating custom cakes and cupcakes for all celebrations in life. Although we do specialize in custom party cakes and cupcakes, we love being a part of weddings, corporate events and small family gatherings. We are proud to say that all of the sweet creations produced by Pretty & Posh Cakes are made from scratch utilizing high quality ingredients and recipes developed in our kitchen. A lot of love, passion, artistry, determination and integrity go into the baking process. We believe that cake should not only be beautiful but taste amazing as well! Pretty & Posh Cakes also believes in supporting the community. We purchase and use local ingredients whenever possible.

Our objective is to create edible art based on the client’s vision. It is imperative that we take the time to get to know our clients during the ordering process. By doing this we are able to provide a creation that portrays their style and personality. Our purpose in this world is to serve others and I choose to do just that through the art of cake.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I love our location! There are many different suburbs within our city and the population is very diverse. This location is ideal for businesses to start up and flourish. Everyday, somewhere, there is a reason to celebrate something special! What better way to celebrate than with a sweet creation?
