Meet Pastor Gloria McGee of M.A.R.R.E.D. Ministries in Southern Sector

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pastor Gloria McGee.

Pastor Gloria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey began as a young married woman, with four children, who experienced domestic abuse for over eleven years. It wasn’t easy for me because I refused to tell anyone, not even my family. The domestic abuse included verbal, mental and emotional, physical, financial, and spiritual. Yes, I did say spiritual abuse. If it had not been for the Lord, who was on my side, I wouldn’t be here to share my story today. In the last three and a half years, of the abuse, I was caring for my terminally ill mother, whom I brought home to care for while in a semi-comatose state. I knew that my life was about to change, and it did after my mother transitioned home to be with the Lord.

God impressed upon my heart to return to college, and write a book; therefore, others would be helped and know how I survived. Unfortunately, the manuscript was found and destroyed, and I was prohibited from returning to school or I would regret it. Strategy became a part of my survival. In December 2014, the Lord touched my heart to establish a nonprofit organization for victims of domestic abuse. At this time, M.A.R.R.E.D. Ministries was formed.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been smooth. There have been obstacles along the way:  failed marriages, financial struggles, sickness, death of my youngest son, and false promises of outside associations that I was fellowshipping with. We’d love to hear more about your organization.
What sets M.A.R.R.E.D. Ministries apart from others is that we advocate for men as well as women and children, because some men are victims too. In 2020, we will host our first domestic violence conference for men. The acronyms for my organization stands for Misused, Abused, Raped, Rejected, Excommunicated, Disfigured. These were my experiences. I desire to be able to assist victims by bringing awareness, education, providing spiritual guidance, resources, and assisting with temporary emergency shelter.
In 2017, I lost my youngest son as a result of domestic abuse. I choose to honor him by advocating for men that are in similar situations. We want to let hurting men know that help is possible.

We host yearly conferences for women to raise awareness. Not only that, we are here to empower women and edify them in the midst of their healing. It has been challenging; however, our goal is to obtain a six to eight room house as a haven for women. By sharing M.A.R.R.E.D., we hope to reach the masses, by showing them a better way.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like our city is a good place for businesses like mine; however, I have been faced with opposition and competition. Yes, I would recommend someone starting business here, but I would encourage them to do their research. I feel that our city can improve by supporting smaller businesses, as well as the larger, or shall I say, those who are already well established. I feel that a newly established business, especially, a nonprofit, should be able to obtain support when doing a service for the common good of the city.
