Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Anne Wihbey-Davis.
Mary Anne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After a successful career in Life Insurance Sales, my corporate office encouraged me to move to Dallas as Assistant Vice President of Training and Development. I agreed to do this for two years as I was from Boston. I fell in love with Dallas, fell in love with training but the corporate world was not for me. So with a pen and pad, I created my dream job and in 1994 opened the doors to Peak Performance Solutions with the primary offerings around sales and service courses. Over time, the offerings expanded and now we spend even more time conducting management, leadership and team building. I have been active in professional associations and met my husband, Roy Davis, through the Association for Talent Development. We actually have two separate companies and work together on occasion. I also collaborate with others in Dallas and around the US who do similar work so we can fulfill large training projects. I believe Peak Performance Solutions has stood the test of time because of the passion around what I do, the energy brought to the classroom and the sincere interest in giving clients service beyond their expectations.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. As any entrepreneur will tell you, it is ups and downs and I never had a second income to fall back on, nor did I go the easy route and work from the house. When I started this, it was important to look like a business and early on moved into class A executive suites. Therefore, when the money wasn’t coming in, the bills were going out, so sometimes hard to get ahead of the game. The worst thing that ever happened, which I have since learned happens to many small to medium size businesses, was that I was scammed and embezzled by a daughter of a woman who worked for me at the Executive Suite. She was in college and I quickly needed some extra assistance. I have always worked well with college interns and had no reason to believe this would be different. It did not only knock me down financially, but more so emotionally. The interesting thing is I was told I did not have a “case”, but with the assistance of a retired CFO who wanted to help me out, the young girl was arrested and the courts settled in my favor. “Amen”.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Peak Performance Solutions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in sales, service, leadership and team building training. We do this through interactive classroom training, webinars and personalized assessments. We do a lot with the Everything DiSC program used to help individuals communicate better, as well as the Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team based on the best selling book and model, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni. What sets us apart is our energy, passion and commitment to our clients. I had a client in Guam in 2006 and the senior person. I always stayed in contact, scheduling an annual call to check in on the team, sending relevant books, articles and samples of offerings. My original contact who moved to Guam from Houston retired. We were brought back to Guam in 2015 and 2017 by the VP of Customer Care who was a supervisor in 2006. She shares openly with others, “Mare, never let go of my hand all these years”. I try as hard as I can to put my clients first and foremost and when the time is right, hopefully, they will come to me and they usually do. If not, I have made wonderful friendships along the way.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city.
I still remember moving here and feeling the spirit of Dallas. There is an energy of optimism in this city and I love calling it home especially now as we are expanding our arts district, concert venues, etc…. What I miss the most is having the ocean within a few miles. I am fortunate as I get to travel a great deal. If I did not travel, I might feel a little landlocked.
