Today we’d like to introduce you to Rafay Syed.
Rafay, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It was my sophomore year of high school. I had a couple of classmates and friends who were photographers, and looking at their pictures and work really inspired me. It wasn’t until my older sister bought a DSLR camera for herself, for her art projects, and forced me to take pics of her as well. After some time the camera just sat on her desk and collected dust. I decided to pick it up and go out with my friends to take some pictures. since then I haven’t stopped. It’s been two years since I started photography and I’m happy how far I’ve come with my progress as a photographer and learning filmmaker. I have a YouTube channel that I used to make vlogs on last summer, but I will be starting it back up this summer again and hope to keep making better content and be consistent.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never really a smooth road for anyone. One thing that I struggled with most was my age. People assume maturity can be measured with age but sometimes that’s not the case. No one wanted to hire a sophomore or junior in High school just because I wasn’t old enough. I didn’t let that get in my way and still took pictures to make my work stand out to where people would forget about my age and treat me at my maturity level.
Please tell us about your business.
I’m a photographer and a learning filmmaker. My specialty is that I can shoot anything and still do it with passion, if it requires a little more effort and a different approach I’m willing to take it. I love shooting Automotive, Fitness, Portraits, Street, and fashion photography. I’m most proud of the fact that I started as a young high school student, but not just as a photographer as a entrepreneur as well, I had to get myself out there as a business and freelancer at the age of 17.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Me, being an outgoing individual helped me a lot in my success because I had the confidence I needed to manage my clients in an orderly fashion. I’ve learned that Grit is a very essential quality to have when someone wants to be successful in anything they want to achieve.
