Today we’d like to introduce you to Raymond Satchell.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started off rapping back in 7th Grade just freestyling on the back of the school bus with friends, I only did it because my older brother and his friends was always doing it and I had a love for music. It has always been therapeutic for me. That eventually graduated in high school to freestyling at pep rallies and the varsity coach would bring me in the basketball locker room to freestyle before games to get them hype. At pep rallies, they would have me freestyle with whoever the best at the opposing school was and I always ended up the hardest. I then started a group (Dem Thrower Boys) with a few hometown homies and we started dropping CDs and flooding the streets. As time went on, I started to progress as they started to venture into other things and I knew I had a real talent for rapping. I then hooked up with some
Homies from high school and started to make more cds that folks would play at high school parties. The first cd was five crown all-stars. It was more gangster rap but I believe it was well-received because they knew I was really doing what I was rapping. As I grew more popular in the streets, it helped the music as well. I then linked up with TopNotch4Real who at the time had a song on K104 with XO called fantasy (he’s also produced for Hurricane Chris , C.Hen, Boosie, and Dorrough along with a few others ) immediately falling in love with his production we created a series of mixtapes in which we again flooded the streets with and received a lot of recognition. I then signed with Shiest House Records Under Big J Holland thanks to a mutual friend Marlon Bivens and from there I proceeded to doing shows from Dallas to Arkansas expanding my network .Next needing to evolve, I linked with C.Hen and we immediately hit it off and started another movement in Dallas, Texas. Moving through the club scene with C.Hen I then got more familiar with A lot of up and coming artist in the game from 2Wice(formerly Twilz), Ace Boogie, Tum Tum, Fat Bastard, Jakk Jo, Ricochet, Fat Pimp, B10, GameBoyz, Jhurt, Dj Tuss, Dj Q and several others. That’s when I dropped my first mixtape series Everybody Loves Raymond & Keep It Gutta. Surpassing over 100,000 views on Spinrilla. Due to legal issues, I took a small break but always stayed consistent with dropping music. I made my return with my first Album Keep it Gutta III, the following year I took the master P approach and dropped a slew of albums throughout the year all available on every streaming platform (19,2,20, blood money, & 300) I also created a blog site for DFW artist only entitled Dallas Music Global where (for free ) we support only DFW artist and post their content daily and all currently teaming up with 93Bread to set up artist interviews as well. I also created spinMixtapez, a page where we take local talent and publish their mixtapes free of charge to spinrilla and MyMixtapes. Just cause I’ consider my self the realest individual alive. And somebody got to look out for us artists. Currently I’ am working on a group album with a new group I am apart of “The WolfPack” getting ready for a video shoot with WwF hall of fame wrestler Kevin Nash, as well as gearing up for a joint project with my brother also known as Soup Koola, as well as getting his first album ready to drop Dec.11 2019. My first mixtape was actually Keep It Gutta with Dj TRap It was also his first mixtape as well.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road, but I’ve always been a real-life analyst, as well as a realest I understood at an early age nothing worth it comes easy. I instilled that into my brain at a young age, I’ have sat back seat to premier artists like TopNotch4real and C.Hen patiently awaiting to create my own name and lane. It was a lot of long nights in the studio, a lot of relationships ruined due to my passion of music over everything on top of raising a family, a lot of legal issues, a lot of time passed but never waisted. I remember when my crew and I were into a beef with Dorrough and his camp, a lot of DJs and music socialites chose sides in an attempt to blackball us. But the real always prevails. Even now that those situations are laughing moments, they definitely hindered us in the process. And being the way I am now choosing to show up for Dj conferences and Music summits or kissing a** to get a record spin .it was a longer route but integrity always feels better . And now even those considered enemies have respect for the kid.
Tell us more about your work. What should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
What sets me apart and separates me from the rest is that I’m genuinely the last authentic person on earth. I really want everyone involved to succeed and make it to the most successful level. I also understand when it comes to music, I’m on a completely different level. You might not know much about me but all it takes is one listen and you will be hooked guaranteed. I don’t lie in my raps and the folks around me can vouch for that. I’m
Most known for not writing any of my material and still able to put out excellent content at an expeditious rate. I did a song for Botham Jean available on SoundCloud and it’s over 100,000 views because folks know I really stand for what I believe in. I pride myself on being the most 100percent person you will ever meet cause we all need a real friend at the end of the day. I’m proud of everything I do and have done because no matter what I’m
Looking out for others before me and that makes me feel a lot better. From the spinmixtapes to Dallas music global to just the fire verses I lay on another artist features. I do it with love and they respect that.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I would say none at all. I come from a mindset instilled into my brain to where if you want something out of life, you got to go and take it. No one is successful from just luck, they put in the necessary accomplishments in order to fulfill the goal they were trying to obtain. I have been this way forever back in the day I couldn’t play basketball and was terrible at sports, but my competitiveness, determination, and drive is what lead me to be great at both, I chose the same route towards music and the business around the music. I would do everything necessary from club appearances, open mic nights, collaborations and street internships to get where I would needed to be. I would travel to support DJ’s in every club and never ask them to spin my music, I would pull up on Shawn Cotton while he would film Say Cheese Tv interviews early and never ask him for an interview or a blog posting. I would show genuine love to everyone I encountered to let others know it’s deeper than music with me. It’s a family operation at all cost. Due time folks started to recognize I was as authentic as I claimed to be, which then lead to the energy being reciprocated. I would create multiple Instagram, Facebook, and social media accounts just to market myself. I would promote for clubs and anything Dallas/Fort Worth oriented. I am in love with keeping busy and working hard. So I can tribute that to luck. The groundwork is completely necessary.
