Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Grochowski.
Rebecca, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2011, I was planning to become pregnant and knew nothing about what kind of experience I wanted. I spoke with a doula from my church and did some research about natural birth. After watching The Business of Being Born, I knew that I wanted an unmedicated birth. I became pregnant soon after and had a wonderful experience with my midwives at the hospital. After my daughter was born, my passion for the birth world was ignited! I reached out to my childbirth instructor and she pointed me in the direction of Birth Boot Camp. The program had just come out the previous year and it was exactly what I was looking for! I was accepted to the program, completed all my training, and became a certified Birth Boot Camp Instructor in October 2013. I have had two more babies at home and I have been happily teaching the expectant couples of DFW ever since!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, I had to work to get my name out in my area. After having to cancel some classes due to no students, I finally booked my first couple and taught a private class. From there, I was able to gain momentum through my students’ word-of-mouth and my marketing. Four years ago, I moved from Mansfield to Little Elm with my family. I had to, once again, start my business completely from scratch. It took a little over a year to get going again, but I’m happy to say that I’ve had a steady stream of classes since then!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I teach Birth Boot Camp childbirth education and I absolutely LOVE it! The curriculum is evidence-based and up-to-date, which makes it a wonderful choice for expecting parents. I teach a variety of classes within the Birth Boot Camp curriculum. You can choose from the Comprehensive class, Hospital Birth Class, Home Birth and Birth Center class, Homecoming (newborn care) class, Comfort Measures class, and many more! My personal favorite is the Comprehensive class because it just covers everything you want to know about pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. It’s ten weeks long and I am so blessed to be able to equip my students with the knowledge to make informed decisions for their birth experience. It is my passion and I am grateful to be able to do this work!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment is when I see my students use their knowledge to make the right choices for their situation. I have had students doubt themselves and when they come back and tell me that they had the experience they desired, it makes me so happy! I am proud of all my students regardless of the type of birth they have because they put in the work to educate themselves and make the best choices for their families.
