Today we’d like to introduce you to Rico Loza.
Rico, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew a child of a plumber. I knew I didn’t want to deal with other people’s…, but I wanted to work in construction and started in 2004 as a General Contractor in Houston. I grew from simple projects to kitchen and bath to whole home renovations. I wasn’t really in love with the emotional roller coaster of a big home renovation project and decided to figure a craft to specialize in. Through the work flow I was really attracted to windows and doors, how something so simple can make such a big impact on a family’s life. Financially through energy savings, health through sealing openings properly, to aesthetics and in-home comfort. So in 2014, I set out with a name change and a new focus, and we haven’t looked back. From Possum Kingdom to Lake Whitney to Prosper to Dallas and everything in between, we have installed hundreds of windows and doors in the metroplex.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Every business has its struggles. Our biggest hurdle was getting our name out there on a limited advertising budget. There are literally hundreds of companies out there similar to us. I set myself from the pack by being involved in pretty much every aspect of the project from start to finish and truthfully going above and beyond. I aligned myself with a girl whom I find to be an SEO expert and in a few months of our alignment, our phones started ringing consistently. There is still a lot to learn about the balance of business so that none of our clients are ignored. Since 2004, our business has doubled annually, and we are proud of that accomplishment. I still struggle getting to the phone calls and emails and responding within what I consider an honest time frame. Growing pains, and new office help is helping out tremendously.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
While we are a window and door replacement company, what sets us apart is our customer service. Understanding that service is the key that stays with the homeowner past the proper install of products, we focus on it. From the top down, I make sure everyone I employ that comes into contact with our clients understands that they are to be treated with the utmost respect, especially while we are in their home. If I have an employee that can’t conform to my standards they are released from duty, no exceptions. We clean up behind ourselves and my rule is to leave it cleaner than we arrived. I have zero tolerance for disrespect and messiness.
What were you like growing up?
As a kid, I was all over the place. I just liked to have fun, as any kid would. My mom was a bit strict, but I had a lot of learning experiences growing p. I worked side jobs with my father, so I learned to plumb. Needless to say, I respect plumbers. My main interests were baseball and music, but I never really pursued either. I played baseball but stopped in my high school years, and I just never really learned how to play any instruments, though the accordion is on my immediate list. I had good friends that I always ran around with, and to this day we still keep in touch. I was little bit rebellious until I entered the business world which shaped me up. And the things I learned early on helped me get where I am today, life’s lessons and knowledge. The two things that can help you grow.
