Meet Robert Neely of InspireMore in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Neely.

Robert, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
InspireMore launched in March of 2014 with one simple goal – “Inspire humanity to live for more” with the world’s most inspiring good news and media. We started as a small team of three people with almost no funding and bootstrapped our way up to reaching nearly 500 million people to date. The world is full of amazing people, stories, innovation, and joy… and our goal is to share that incredible goodness with people all around the globe. Today’s media and news can be depressing – each year, hundreds of thousands of people are diagnosed with depression and anxiety due to media consumption. Our site aims to be the opposite, and 9 out of 10 people are happier and more optimistic after consuming InspireMore content.

Has it been a smooth road?
No! Media is a very tough industry that is lightning-fast. We have had many ups and downs. But our team has always been driven to make a difference. Since we are competing with large news companies, social media accounts, and other forms of media for the attention of our users, we have to continually innovate to stay fresh and relevant. But our mantra has always been the Margaret Mead quote “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

InspireMore – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We like to say if the news was completely positive and uplifting, that’s what InspireMore does. We are known as a company that only publishes uplifting stories that bring hope, joy, laughter, and inspiration to our readers. Our daily email, the Morning Smile, has over 450,000 subscribers and is arguably the #1 good news and inspiring email newsletter in the world. Likewise, we have 12M social fans that turn to us for good news. We are most proud of the impact that we make – we have users every day tell us that we are making them more joyful, lifting them out of anxiety/depression, and giving them hope that there is good in the world. As one user said, “InspireMore is like Vitamin C for my soul!” That is what makes us most proud.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas is a fantastic place to start a business. Though it may not have the start-up branding like Austin, San Francisco, or New York has, Dallas is a fantastic place with a vibrant economy. There is also great access to capital if you look in the right places. Overall, to improve, I think Dallas investors should further focus on investing locally in new companies… a few big starts up wins and Dallas can become more deeply recognized as a center for tech innovation.
