Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyne and Jeremy Swink.
Southern Affairs Weddings & Events was founded in November of 2013 after Robyne realized that her heart just wasn’t in the corporate world anymore. Robyne has always been a lover of beautiful decor, flowers, and a well thought out itinerary – and so decided to take a giant leap of faith and made a career change.
Within a year of being in business – Robyne soon noticed that the wedding market was so focused on the Bride and left the Groom out of so much of the planning process. That is when she decided to have her husband, Jeremy, join her team – to become a husband and wife planning duo! Jeremy joined as the official Groom’s liaison – and together they created a boutique wedding planning experience geared towards couples!
Today, they have a team of three planners, have offices in both Dallas and Portland and produce up to 24 weddings a year.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Naturally – there have been quite a few ups and downs and we have hit a few bumps since starting the business.
One of the main ones being – networking. Robyne is very much an introverted-extrovert and is very modest, so talking about herself is just not her cup of tea. So it has been a struggle for her to get out and network with others. But this year, she had made a big effort to overcome this issue.
Another struggle was really trying to find our niche in this industry, something. that would set us apart for all of the other planners in the market. We still haven’t figured it out 100% just yet, but we are almost there.
And of course – trying to find the perfect team to grow with you!

Southern Affairs Weddings and Events curates luxury fine art celebrations. We offer full-service wedding and event planning, styling and design as well as Elopement planning in Texas, Oregon, and California. We specialize in timeless, refine and romantic celebrations.

It is important to us to make the whole wedding experience about the couple and to develop lasting relationships with our clients.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to us is being able to continue to work for ourselves and grow our company, all while still being able to enjoy our personal lives outside of the business. Being able to enjoy a quiet morning together or a cocktail with friends and not letting work consume us. Being able to support ourselves financially is very important – but it is not all life is about.
