Meet Rodney Stinson of HTX Skin Lab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodney Stinson.

Hi Rodney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a child, I suffered from severe acne. I’m talking blackheads and pimples on both of my cheeks. My skin was definitely the joke of many. It was so bad that when my parents would give us money, I spent mine on skincare products. From about 12-14, I literally tried every brand you could think of, and nothing worked. I can remember walking through Somerset Collection, our high-end mall in the Metro Detroit area, and that’s when I discovered Khiel’s. The rep gave me a Ton of free samples because, for a 15 y/o, it was expensive for that time. Don’t tell anybody, but this was in the 90s. Lol, I started to see results just from the samples. Eventually, I was able to buy full-size products. From that point on, I was interested in skincare.

Fast forward to 2018, I had an amazing year in real estate, so I decided to revisit the idea of a career in skincare. I spoke to my cousin @trudiva9, who was interested in waxing, and we both enrolled in esthetics school. I graduated and was licensed in 2019, and the rest was history. Since entering the beauty industry, I have had the amazing opportunities to work with several big brands. I’ve worked as a Skin Therapist and Prestige Sales Manager at Ulta, Sales Specialist at Bare Minerals, and Freelance for Urban Decay. So it’s only right that I bless Houston with the skills and talents of Detroit’s #1 Male Esthetician. Lol

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish that I could say it has been a smooth road. But unfortunately, as an African American male, I have had more shocking encounters than I would like to recall. I have had Caucasian women ask if there is someone else that could help them with color matches for the foundation. Even Arabic husbands directed me to speak to them because their wife wasn’t allowed to communicate with other men. On the flip side, things have been smooth sailing since here in Houston. I connected with a group of like-minded spa professionals, so it’s been great to network and bounce ideas off of each other. It truly helps to have a proven framework from @sixfigurespachick. Not to mention the support I’ve received from my neighbors and out-of-state clients who have flown in and or placed orders. Despite the struggles, I can confidently say that my number of wins has been far greater.

We’ve been impressed with HTX Skin Lab, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What should we know? You should know that I am an advocate for making people feel good in their own skin without the use of filters and makeup.

What do you do, what do you specialize in / what are you known for? I currently offer acne and antiaging treatments, non-laser hair removal, and intimate skincare. I am known for bringing an elevated, elegant skincare experience to Houston.

What sets you apart from others? Outside of being an African American male in Esthetics, I am certified and trained by some of the world’s biggest and most popular names in skincare. Specialize in Fitz 4-6

What are you most proud of brand-wise? I am most proud that through the formulation and sale of my Rose + Vitamin E Oil & Body Scrubs, I have the opportunity to be a resource for others who are suffering from acne.

What do you want our readers to know about your brand, offerings, services, etc.? I want the readers to know that I am currently accepting new clients worldwide via Virtual Consultation. You do not have to suffer from acne when a combination of my products can help you reach and exceed your skincare goals. #GoFilterless

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
The Four Agreements & The Millionaire from Nazareth are the books that ate helped me to remain focused and do my best in life. As far as work, right now I’m reading a lot of marketing books. Looking for ways to grow my social media following and innovatively educate my clients and future clients.
