Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosy L.
Hi Rosy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been around music most of my life. It all started in my home country, Laos, when I started uploading videos of myself singing other people’s songs on my YouTube Channel. In my spare time, I would write or make up random songs. Singing and writing songs has always been my way of journaling my feelings and escaping the real world. It was not until high school that people found out that I could sing. I met my best friend Lauren in 9th grade, who also loves to sing. Together, we started performing at my high school back in Laos, and I carried my love for music to my college years where I met my soulmate, Aurel. Although I went to college to complete my Bachelor’s in Sociology, I would always make time for music. I always knew I wanted to write music to help people who are going through dark times in their lives. I never stopped creating and my soulmate, Aurel, who is also a music producer and engineer, truly pushed me to take my music to another level. With his help and the support of others around me, we started recording. I decided to go by my artist name Rosy L, and we put out my first ever single “A Song To You and I” in 2020 and I have been putting out music ever since. I recently released my latest single “Breaking Free” in December 2021. I now have over 500k steams in total on Spotify alone for all the songs that I have released so far.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I am so thankful to share that it has been a smooth road because I surrounded myself with friends and family who truly believed in me and my passion for music. I am able to keep going and do what I do because of the support I have received from those around me. The only true obstacle I had was myself. For the longest time, I was doubting and blocking myself from growing as an artist. Although others saw the potential in me, it took be a while to finally believe in myself that I can become the singer-songwriter that I have always wanted to be.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer-songwriter based in Dallas, TX. I was born in Thailand and raised in Laos. I write music in hopes to heal victims of violence who are struggling with depression and anxiety. As a singer-songwriter, I wish to inspire and lift the spirits of the broken ones. I do not believe in putting myself in a box because I do not want to limit my creativity; therefore, I do not have a specific genre that I work with. I love writing songs for all genres. I am the most proud of my Movin’ On EP that I released at the end of 2020. Movin’ On is a short inspirational EP with four songs. The purpose of this EP is to add positivity into the world. I also had the chance to put out the same EP in 2021, but in my own language, Laos, in hopes to reach my Lao community as well. I believe what sets me apart from others is that I have the ability to sing in two languages which gives me the opportunity to share my Lao culture with the world.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
First, being able to love my own craft is the most important to my success. I believe that we should always be our number one supporter. No one will see the value in my work until I start seeing the value in my own work. Secondly, being self-driven is another quality that is most important to my success. I have to have that drive in me to take myself to another level. It is true that I have all the support around me, but if I am not willing to see and believe the support, I can only go so far. Third, I believe that being a risk-taker is most important in my success. I am personally scared of changes, but I always tell myself that sometimes you just got to be a risk-taker and go for it because you never truly know what is going to happen and what that one change is going to bring into your life.
