Today we’d like to introduce you to Royshawn Gross.
Royshawn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I remember I would always tell my wife that I would have a business and it would be named Gross316ink. I never knew it would be Photography on the end of it though. I fell in love with Photography, purchased my first Nikon Camera, and the rest was history. With that camera, I began snapping pictures and I haven’t stopped since. Believe me, it hasn’t been easy. There have been times where I wanted to quit and throw in the towel. I noticed I was comparing myself to other photographers and feeling like I was less than. There were also times when I was looked over because if you would just be honest, most people are drawn to bigger names and someone with more experience. I’m not gonna lie, it hurt my pride at times, but I kept reminding myself of what kind of God I served. With that being said we are now coming up on our three year anniversary in March of 2020 and if it’s God’s will, there will be many more to come. If someone is reading this, that is feeling like I felt I want to encourage you not to give up. Stay away from negative people. Surround yourself with like-minded people. It’s hard but with God all things are possible. Finally, What God has for you is tailor-made just for you.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has been plenty of struggles as I stated earlier, when I felt like I wanted to quit as soon as I started. With Photography comes needing equipment which does get pricey. Also trying to balance my full-time job, being a husband, and also a father as well. It does at times get stressful but I’ve learned to look at the bigger picture and know that All the hard work will pay off in the end.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Gross316ink Photography – what should we know?
The name Gross316ink of course came from my last name which is Gross, but the numbers 316 symbolizes March 16th which is my birthday but it also symbolizes one of my favorite bible verses which is John 3:16 “For God so loved the world….” Gross316ink Photography is a family-owned business and we specialize in giving our customers top-notch service with each photoshoot or event in which they hire us for. Im most proud as a company that we not only just show up to take photos, but we engage with our customers, encourage them, speak life into them and some have even done the same for us. I believe that’s what sets us apart because there has been times when we were done with a photoshoot and found ourselves their another hour just conversing and enjoying each other’s company. It’s not only about the money for us. We genuinely love people!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My plans for the future is first and foremost to keep God first in everything that I do. Let him lead me in the right direction. With the year 2020 coming up, I definitely plan on thinking outside of the box so you just might look up and see us at an event, wedding, or photoshoot near you. As far as big changes in the future, we will be looking to get us a photo studio where we will be able to offer studio sessions as well. We are very excited about that!!
