So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Ruby, the proud owner of La Casa Frida based in San Antonio, Tx.
La Casa Frida began back in November 2018 inside a 1968 Vintage airstream trailer at the Shops of Broadway News.
La Casa Frida started with a very simple yet powerful idea behind it, to bring an authentic little piece of Mexico to our customers. Growing up in Mexico exposed me to the many vibrant colors, food and traditions that makes Mexico such a unique place.
I’ve always been passionate about wearing traditional and ethical pieces that represent my heritage and wanted to share the artisans work to my loved ones. Many friends would compliment me on the items I would wear and asked me where I got them before I knew it, I was ordering products for friends and family. Then I started with a few small pop-ups around San Antonio and eventually came up with the idea of opening my own women’s boutique inside a vintage Airstream trailer.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Juggling between being a wife, a mother, an entrepreneur and a businesswoman has been definitely a challenge. Every single day is different but that’s a curse and a blessing at the same time. Also, all the logistics behind working remotely with the artisans and designers in Mexico can be a challenge.
La Casa Frida – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
La Casa Frida is a women’s boutique specializing in authentic and one of a kind handmade items from all over Mexico. We specialize in high-end items like handbags, jewelry, clothing and accessories that portrait the heritage and traditions from Mexico in a modern and fashionable way.
We work directly with artists, fashion designers and famous brands from all over Mexico. Most of our items are trend-setting, limited in quantity, guaranteeing our customers exclusive designs that you can’t find anywhere else. We take pride in telling our customers the story behind every item we sell and the many hours of work necessary in order to create each piece.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
One of our proudest moment was being voted “Best Women’s Boutique 2019” by San Antonio magazine.
