Today we’d like to introduce you to Julio Rivera a.k.a. S.O.U.L.Jah and DJ Titan.

I’m the creator of The DJ School Dallas.
People always ask me what the S.O.U.L. acronym stands for in my artist name & it stands for, “Shamen Of Universal Language” I believe that musicians are the ultimate shamans because they bring with them best medicine in the universe, MUSIC. I’ve been honing my skills as a DJ, as a remixer and producer of music since ’99. I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico & later moved to Texas. I now call Dallas his home for the past 20 years. For some reason, I’ve always be keen on music & musically inclined. As an avid record collector, my first music festival experience sparked my passion as a DJ and producer.
Over the last few years, I’ve had the honor to have performed, opened, and headlined shows with the likes of Erykah Badu, Jewel, Major Lazer, Arlissa, Jackal, G.Jones, The Hardkiss Brothers, Nero, Hucci, Immortal Technique, Random Movement, Bonobo, E-40, Nightmares On Wax, Nina Las Vegas, Flava D, and more. In the last two years, in an effort to bring a spotlight back on Turntablism, I’ve hosted Red Bull 3Style World Champs J. Espinosa & Eskei83, as well as a slew of some of the best DJs in the world. These nights are what really sparked my want to spread the DJ culture & open up a DJ school. I wanted to pass the energy of our culture to as many people as I can!
Currently, I have the honor of being not only the resident DJ but the music director of Park House & Candleroom, two of the most exclusive venues in all of the United States.
The DJ School Dallas is a school for up and coming DJs, Artists, or anyone looking to learn more about the DJ Industry & the DJ Culture.
Our mission is to teach anyone that wants to learn the wonderful art form of DJ’ing. Our founders, S.O.U.L.Jah & DJ Titan, have an extraordinary 35+ years of combined DJ & Production experience and currently have pupils playing in booths all over the world! Up to the present date, we have graduated 14 students in 2019 alone! All of which are now working DJ’s getting gigs & shows on their own where they’re making great money!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If there’s something I’ve learned in life is that to achieve your dreams & make them a reality, there will always be some kind of struggle! That’s part of it! For us at The DJ School Dallas, every day is a learning experience. Our students teach us that no two people and with that, it helps us create personal teaching techniques to fit each individual in our classes. Staying on top of social media & the cost of it are probably our main struggles cause our time is precious. We rather be spending our time helping out our students than spending time posting on Instagram & Facebook but we’re getting better in learning how to balance it all out. Balancing our time wisely is the key!
Please tell us about The DJ School Dallas.
The DJ School Dallas is a credited DJ school based in Dallas, Texas. We offer private lessons for students on schedule restrictions. But our pride & joy is our intensive introductory course held at our private studio School location, located at Pro Rehearsal Studios. This course is comprised of specialist modules covering the various essential aspects of DJ training. All classes are taught by experienced Disc Jockeys who work in some of America’s top clubs and venues.
The DJ School Dallas’ introductory course runs over five consecutive days (classes fall between 10 am and 6 pm each day). No experience is needed to partake in this course and all equipment is supplied. We accept students from 16 years upwards but will make exceptions with proper parental involvement.
Like I said previously, We are a school for up and coming DJs, Artists, or anyone looking to learn more about the DJ Industry & immerse themselves in everything DJ culture!
Our mission is to teach anyone that wants to learn the wonderful art form of DJ’ing. Our founders have an extraordinary 35+ years of combined DJ experience and currently have pupils playing in booths all over.
The thing that makes us most proud of us as a company is the joy you see the students have the day of their graduation set which is always held at an actual venue in front of an actual live audience! We put them on the spot & they ALWAYS deliver! It’s truly a testament to how successful the course is. Every student that has enrolled in 2019 not only has graduated but all have go on to start successful DJ careers & turn their education we gave them into a respected & fulfilling job & career!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I were given the chance to start over I’d do two things differently. First, I would have started school earlier like five years ago. Second, I would buy my building instead of renting it.
Pricing:
- Private Lessons run $100-$250 an Hour depending on student, needs, & caliber of instructor needed
- 5 Week Intensive Beginner Course – $500 – We Meet every Sunday, 2pm to 4pm – After the 5 weeks we give students a month to practice then we hold GraduationParty where they all have to perform 30 minute set to graduate & receive their diploma
- We Teach both DJ’ing & Production Classes
