Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Stang.
Sabrina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I took up lettering for my wedding in Sept. 2016, so we could add to our rustic theme. After our wedding, I had no reason to letter anymore. Then my husband and I experienced a miscarriage. That’s when I dove head first into bible lettering. It helped me focus on God’s word. We now have an 18-month-old daughter. Even when we go through trials and tribulations, he has a plan for us. My Aunt came over to visit me and I showed her the projects I had worked on for my family for Christmas. She said, “You should sell it at Helotes Market Days!” What!? I had never thought about it until that day. That’s when an idea so small shined bright – The Golden Speck. My tagline “Stay Golden” reminds me to stay true to my beliefs and keep pushing forward, for me and my family. No matter how small your idea is, may it shine brightly.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all. Anytime I struggle with a project or workshop attendance I take those experiences as opportunities to push myself to think outside the box. It also helps to break everything down and make a plan!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Golden Speck story. Tell us more about the business.
The Golden Speck is a calligraphy business located in San Antonio, TX. My business has evolved since 2016. I now focus on teaching calligraphy workshops on brush and pointed pen. As well as custom signage for life’s big moments. I’m thankful to have been able to teach over 95 students the art of modern calligraphy. Being able to teach a skill to students who later use calligraphy to address envelopes for their wedding, baby shower or Christmas cards is probably the most rewarding. However, creating a custom sign that’s part of a wedding, baby shower, or nursery is truly special. I believe in nurturing connections and creating relationships with your clients and community – that’s what sets me apart from others.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Calligraphy has been trending for some time now. It’s grown a lot since 2016 when I started and it will continue to evolve. The wedding industry has always been a big hit for calligraphers. It’d be nice to see other industry’s pick it up. That’s why I really enjoy working with local shops to help with their branding.
