Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Adams.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Samantha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a self- taught clothing designer. I live in the McKinney, Texas I moved here from Mississippi to start a new life and career. I was born in Chicago, Ill and raised in Crystal Springs, MS. My family and I lived with my grandmother in Mississippi.
My grandmother was a clothing designer, seamstress, entrepreneur, making hats, making her own clothing patterns she did everything. My grandmother taught me everything that I know. After I move to Texas my first step was to get a sales permit on March 26,2011 I filled out the proper paperwork to receive my permit to sale Sambi Fashions clothing. The name Sambi Fashions means “Sam” which is the first letters of my name and “bi” meaning twice each or two. To me the meaning of Sambi Fashions is my second chance to become the clothing designer / small business owner that I always wanted to become. This was a very important day for me. The first major steps to becoming a successful business owner. Since I have gotten my business name registered I have been in over 20 fashion shows locally and different parts of the United States. I continue to push myself to reach the top and I will not let anything discourage me from reaching my goals. In the process of creating a brand for Sambi Fashions. I also created a men clothing line called Premier. Premier was created for the masculine women and men.
The idea of Premier was presented to me 2 years ago at a fashion show in California by several different women who did not particularly fit into the flower print girly clothing category also men who were looking for a different way of style and wanted to be comfortable and can be wear at any occasion for them as well. After thinking long and hard about the idea. Soon after that Premier was born in 2015. However, Premier is a work in progress but I know that the finish in product will definitely caught the attention of the people.
Sambi Fashions/ Premier next goal is to open my very first mobile store and travel the world. Right now, I am currently working as a full- time home health aide in which I absolutely enjoy helping others. I also make customized design for people for different occasion. However, I am very independent hard worker positive woman whom works hard for everything in life.
Sambi Fashions/ Premier has positive things been happening for my small business.
Sambi Fashions has a Facebook Fan Page that allows people to see new garments that I have created, different events that I will showcase my designs, and even updates on new blog post. Sambi Fashions weekly blog (www.sambifashions.com) is a site that gives everyone information on new fashion trends, step by step instructions on how to turn your old wardrobe into a new garment, providing information on shopping deals and what department stores have the best sales.
Sambi Fashions have created a fundly.com campaign account (https://fundly.com/sambi-fashions) to help raise money. And Sambi Fashions is now a part of groupon.com (http://www.groupon.com/deals/sambi-fashions).
Everything that I am managing I do it without the assistance of government small business loans, taking out personal loans, or unsecured loans. I am a person who donates to different charities such a Walwea Cancer Support Foundation, I am person whom helps her community, a God-fearing woman, and I like to think that I am awesome provider for my family. To me working hard and dedication believing in self and the vision that God has given me and having strong faith in his words has gotten me to this point in my business and life.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have experienced a lot of road blocks over the past years. From losing my grandmother and my aunt whom I was very close to. To my twin sister having a major stroke and almost lose her. Thank God, she is still here and doing 90% better. Also, I take care of my disable twin making sure that I keep a roof over our heads, food to eat, and basic daily healthcare items. I have been told NO so many times it’s not funny. From applying small business loans and being turned down.
To creating campaign fund raiser to help raise money and selling Sambi Fashions / Premier logo T shirts in which I had small success in. not much. From people telling me that I will never make it, being the retail business having someone tell you that basically you TRYING to start a business and I actually run a business and all the negative feedback.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sambi Fashions story. Tell us more about the business.
Sambi Fashions is a clothing line that specializes in customize casual/ business attire for all size women. At Sambi Fashions we take pride in our creative process.
To bring you the BEST quality clothing that is an extension of your lifestyle. I only make one garment of each design that I create. I have always been that person that did not like dressing like anyone else nor seeing someone wearing something I had in my closet, That is where the general idea of customize clothing came from.
I create, design and make every single garment myself. I am known for being so passionate about Sambi Fashions stands for I understand what the average (if you will) woman goes through trying to find something that fits you comfortably and flatters your unique body type. Understanding the different type of styles women have, making garments that compliment women shapes. I think most that I am proud of is the fact that I have worked so hard to get to this point in my company.
That I am able to have so many outlets as a company from having a blog site, fan page, and a Facebook online store. Also, showing the world my unique creation and letting the world know who I am, as a business, business owner, sister, provider, and keeping my faith strong in everything I do as a whole.
What sets my company apart from others is that I am faith driven, I do not take NO for an answer and that I completely understand what women goes on having their own style. And I also offer a stylist in box it helps me keep track of everyone personal, what best fits their personality and lifestyle.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I honestly do not think of it as luck. It’s my destiny that God has given me and no one else. My life event both good & bad played a major role in my business and it helped me because the strong independent woman and business owner I am today.
