Meet Samantha Mora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Mora.

Hi Samantha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
In 2018, I was pregnant with my daughter Sophia and decided I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom once she was born. During that first year of her life, I quickly came to terms that being a stay-at-home mom just wasn’t for me. I’m an extrovert, I need to be around people and talk to people (older than 1). I was losing confidence and self-esteem. As I was making her birthday cakes, my friends and family really encouraged me to do this as a side business until I figured out what I wanted to do full-time. I’ve always been creative and artsy, so it was easy for me and I enjoyed it. I sold my first cake to a friend of mine for her daughter’s birthday. That was in January 2019. Through word of mouth, Facebook, and Instagram my one-cake-a-month business grew to 25-30 cakes a month pretty quickly. I enjoyed it so much, I decided to do it full-time and formed my LLC in 2021.

My mom used to tell me when I was a small child, I used to pretend I was on a cooking show in the backyard, making mud patties and decorating them. So, I suppose that’s when it really started.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has had its ups and downs over the last few years. When Covid hit, I thought for sure my little business was going to tank but, it didn’t! My orders actually went up. People were staying home more and needed cakes; I was ecstatic. Now that we’re getting past the Covid issues, we’re now facing supply and demand issues. Prices are slowly increasing for supplies and ingredients which is making me have to raise my prices as well. Thankfully, my clients understand. Being a mommy to two young kids (4 and 7) has added its struggles for the business as well. Working from home, taking care of the kids, and trying to entertain them has kept me quite busy!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a premier wedding cake and special occasion cake designer and creator in the DFW area. I specialize in most things cake. Whether the occasion is a wedding, birthday, anniversary, quinceanera or any other time you would need or want cake, I’m your girl! I’m usually known for my cakes tasting just as good as they look. If you’re going to pay good money for a special cake, you want it to taste good as well. My cakes usually have little to no leftovers and often times my clients will order more cake than they need just to have some for their coffee the next few mornings. I’m most proud that I’ve built something of my own, something I enjoy and love. I took a leap of faith and I’m rocking it. What sets me apart of others is that every client is special to me. I take them step by step throughout the process. I keep in touch while the cake is being made and send pictures so we know that the product we are making is exactly what the client wanted. I use quality ingredients and products throughout the process. I also do not over-promise and under-deliver. If it’s not something I can do, I will tell you. And if you need a cake to feed 20, I’m not going to sell you a cake that feeds 30 just for the extra profit.

My clients trust me to deliver not only a beautiful cake but, also a very tasty product; and that’s what matters!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Grapevine has a small-town feel in a large city. It’s a great place to live, work, vacation, and play. There really isn’t anything to dislike about it!

As far as the Dallas area, I love the diversity we have. Dislikes would definitely be the road construction!
