Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Washburn.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
It all started on a whim and I mean that. Photography was far from the Architecture and Criminal Justice degree I was working so hard toward. One day a group of girlfriends and I decided to visit the Botanic Gardens in Fort Worth for a fun and relaxing afternoon. I took my little Kodak point and shoot camera and filled up the memory card with butterflies, flowers, and my friends smiling faces.
Little did I know this was the start of my crazy journey. Before I knew it, I was booked almost every weekend with clients who wanted me to document their lives, smiles and fun times. Through it all I would jump online and take any online class and read any book I could about photography, as well as the ins and outs of running a business. I had a close friend get engaged and she asked me to photograph her wedding. Scared to death and more nervous than any other day in my life to date, I jumped right in and said yes. From that point forward, I have grown a fond love for wedding photography. Being around love makes a soul happy.
There is no greater joy than getting to watch a groom’s face as his bride walks down the aisle toward him or seeing a mom button her daughter’s wedding dress. That joy turned into a passion. Before long I knew I wanted to focus on capturing these loving moments for brides and grooms. Seeing the love between couples grow and blossom from the first coffee date I share with them to their wedding day brings me to tears. As a romantic at heart, you are sure to see a few tears flow on your wedding day from behind my camera. I love everything about it. I love getting to document my beautiful couples love stories all while getting to laugh with them and becoming friends. Friends that forever have a place in my heart.
Please tell us about your art.
I capture special memories and preserve them for years to come. I want to tell your love story. How did he propose? When was the first moment you knew she was meant for you? What is love through your eyes? I want to answer all these questions with images. I want you to be able to share these stories through images for generations to come.
When you open your wedding album on your anniversary, my hope is that you will relive these memories. That a rush of refined love will come over you and you will be taken back to the romance of your wedding day. When you look back on the engagement photos, the session that started it all, my prayer is that you are more in love and adore your partner more than you did that day. I hope you show these memories to your kids and their kids and say, ‘That smile right there is what set this thing in motion. I am so in love with your grandmother, and from that moment, my love has never shifted nor wavered.’
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Just do it. Don’t be afraid to jump right in and soak it all up. Never stop learning. I am constantly watching a webinar, going to classes, and investing in my career. Yes, there will be hard times, but reach out to your friends or fellow creatives and go grab some coffee or mid-morning brunch. When your eyes start to go fuzzy, step away from the laptop or whatever you are working on and just relax.
Being your own boss can be such a blessing, but also a curse. As an entrepreneur, there are times I feel like I have to have it all done now. When I step back and look at the situation I realize I am only one person and what I don’t get finished today can wait for tomorrow.
Above all else, give yourself grace. Grace to grow and learn. Grace to take on that big job and rock it. And grace to know you are enough.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?

What a joy it was to sit and read your article about a young woman I have adored fir several yrs. I am friends of her parents & she is a joy to have watched grow & build her carrier.
Samatha is bright, talented & extremely loving. She has an eye for beauty , love and grace. A trait she got I know…from her sweet mother💗. She is hard working & does what she sets her mind out to do.
