Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Creasman Barnett.
Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Sarah Creasman Barnett and I’ve been painting for as long as I can remember. My mother is an artist and always encouraged my love of art. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, in 2009. I went on to become an attorney. I still practice art daily as a personal hobby and I do commission work as well.
Has it been a smooth road?
As an artist, it is always challenging to find ways to stay focused on my own work and to set aside the time to devote to new projects. I am also a new mom so it has been challenging to keep art as a priority. I think it is important for me to carve out a part of the day to be creative, but some days are more successful than others.
Please tell us about your art.
I create custom paintings for clients. I work primarily in acrylic and ink. For commissioned work, I request from the client a photo as a source reference and I am always happy to work with the client to narrow down which photo would translate best to a painting. I enjoy creating paintings for clients because I feel very honored to be trusted to recreate special moments that can live on the walls of people’s homes for years to come.
I also develop my personal portfolio alongside commissions. My personal work is focused on domestic interiors and domestic narratives. I’m interested in the visual representation of memory and created memory. My work has recently been featured in “The World of Interiors Magazine”, “Create! Magazine”, and “The Scout Guide”.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I hope to continue creating custom paintings for clients for years to come. I learn something new with each painting I complete which allows my work to grow and improve.
