Thanks for sharing your story with us Sarah, Cateel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In late 2017, we started what was called The Annex Noir, which was a more traditional boudoir photography company. We successfully organized several shoots, had built quite a following in our private social media group, had made several business acquaintances, and really just overall taken off quite well. At the height of our success (oddly enough!), we found ourselves in a bit of a quandary. We noticed that our most favorite photos were those of our clients behind the scenes, stripped down to t-shirts and underwear and just hanging out, rather than the heavily glammed, meticulously styled photos that we had all put so much work into. While discussing our predicament, we realized that what we were really attracted to was the truth of the women in those photos. We fell in love with seeing them as they really are, as opposed to the supermodel versions of these women we were turning them into in the name of “boudoir.” We also struggled with the moral plight of preaching self-love to women who were, albeit beautifully done, were so far removed from who they really were. As a result, we decided to completely scrap The Annex Noir, and Untamed Raw Intimates was born!
Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, we’d have to say it’s been fantastic. We’ve had tons of support, most of our clients were completely in love with the redirection just as much as we were, and we’ve had a really great start to our re-branding. When working with women, their appearance, in particular, there is an inherent struggle in convincing them to see themselves as the world sees them- beautiful, sensual, strong – and with that, comes the struggle of convincing them that it’s okay to invest money in this kind of special experience for themselves. A lot of our clients are moms, business owners, members of church, etc., so there’s this mindset that it’s vain or selfish to do something nice for yourself or that the money could be put toward something “better.” What could possibly be “better” than refilling your own cup? You can only give so much of yourself to others before there is nothing left to give. This is a perfect way to recenter yourself, see yourself, and fall in love with yourself over and over again. To us, that is invaluable, and sorely needed in today’s society.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Untamed Raw Intimates story. Tell us more about the business.
Untamed Raw Intimates is intimate photography that captures the natural essence of who you are.
Women are our passion. Our specialty. Celebrating women is the ultimate goal.
Being women and specializing in photographing women, we know first-hand how excited, but also nervous a boudoir shoot can make you. So first, let’s throw that word out.
This is an intimate shoot.
And it is for you.
It’s been our experience that the word “boudoir” implies that you have to be someone you aren’t, turn into a make-believe Aphrodite, or otherwise feel pressured to put on a show for the camera. YOU DON’T.
Women, by nature, possess sensual energy.
We don’t have to transform you into someone you don’t recognize for that to shine through.
For every client, we strive to provide a casual and comfortable atmosphere and to create beautiful art that gives you a true glimpse into the amazing woman that you are. We photograph real people, just like you. Our clients are moms, college students, brides-to-be, curvy girls, skinny girls, teachers, doctors, and every mix, match, and overlap in between. Women of all ages come for a relaxed and fun experience while making magic in the process. Your session takes place at a studio specially selected to suit the aesthetic of your personalized shoot, and includes all the special touches that make you feel wonderful. This includes – professionally applied makeup & hair-styling, posing direction, and wardrobe styling consultation. Most of all, we are excited to see your confidence exude, because it will. It always happens.

We do minimal skin retouching and a very natural makeup set. It is our belief that seeing yourself, your true self, and loving it, is one of the most important moments of your life.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We’d love to see a continuation of women proudly embracing their own natural beauty, not only in front of the camera, but also in their day-to-day lives. We predict we will also start to see much more inclusive forms of intimate photography that include men, couples, and LGBTQIA+ representation, which we wholeheartedly love and support. We’d love to see intimate photography become a more widely and openly expressed artform in those communities. We currently shoot those genres and are very excited to gain momentum in those directions.
