Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Maxwell.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi there!
My cousin once told me she ran out of space in her address book for all the addresses I have lived in. You can say I enjoy moving and house hunting a tad. 😉 That is probably where my journey “started” as a DFW Realtor®.
I have always loved home design and spent about a decade designing and staging as a side hobby for friends and other real estate agents. As much as I loved the real estate industry (and successfully bought and sold many of my own homes), I felt the need to be in a “9-5” career for the stability and benefits.
In the back of my mind, I always wondered about getting my license and mentioned it often to my husband. Finally, a few years ago, with a few nudges from supportive friends and my amazing husband, I decided to pursue my own license. I was working full-time though [as a mom to four kids], so it took a couple months for me to finish the classes.
After becoming licensed, I knew I needed to pursue real estate full throttle so I could quit my other career. It didn’t take long for me to become a full-time agent and I barely remember life without real estate in it. Real estate has become a family business for us. My kids love to help me organize and stage listings, and my husband is my main assistant and handyman. He is also always up for a great landscaping project and helping my clients in anything they need before and after a sale.
Looking back over the last few years, I am profoundly grateful for this career and the wonderful people it’s allowed me to meet and help along the way. Even though I often wish I would have gotten my license earlier, I can see that each part of my life journey impacts my business today. I would not be where I am in real estate without those connections and my story has given me many opportunities to share this with others: “You’ll never regret pursuing your dreams. Do it today!”
Currently, I am on the Associate Leadership Committee with Keller Williams Plano and have been a top producer every year as an agent. None of this would be possible if it weren’t for the trust and referrals from my clients, family, and friends as well as the support from our leadership at KW Plano. I have the best.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t! When I became licensed in January, it took nearly six months for me to actually close a real estate transaction! Battling doubts and fears that I had not made the right career choice was a daily struggle. I knew I could not give up on a lifelong dream though and decided to stay consistent. It paid off. 🙂
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
I am a client-focused real estate agent serving all of DFW.
I want every client of mine to walk away from their experience knowing how much I truly cared for them and their needs. A client of mine once said that she felt like she was my only client and had my full attention at all times; that is the type of luxury service I want and provide.
My husband and I offer free organizing, light staging, handyman projects, and landscaping for all of my listings. I offer free design consultation on all purchases. I love when people say to me, “We’ve never had a REALTOR® do all this! WOW!” I work to make sure everyone gets the satisfied ‘WOW.’
How do you define success?
My business is solely referral based. I think that is one of the best definitions of “success” in real estate. Knowing I gave someone the level of care they want for their family and friends is truly success.
Personally, I get so much pride with each home sale or buy. They are all unique and seeing my clients happy is where I get the most joy.
