Meet Sarah Zink of Sarah Zink Business Training in Mansfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Zink.

Sarah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began my training company in 2004 when I attended a seminar and whispered to my friend next to me, “I could do better than that!”, to which she replied, “Then do it!”. When I started my company, I trained on a very wide variety of topics; over the years, I’ve winnowed it down to three major areas in which I consider myself an ‘expert’: Communication, Behavior and Time Management. When you think about it, these three areas form the core of effective Leadership, impactful Teamwork, successful Change Management and powerful Process Improvement.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
HA! Smooth is definitely *not* the word I would use when describing the journey. Some major struggles included learning exactly who my perfect customer is; hiring the right people; building processes that made sense and learning to say ‘no’ to and/or fire customers.

Sarah Zink Business Training – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I consider myself a multi-dimensional businesswoman and a “multi-preneur”, with a rich and varied background in education, psychology, and community development. As a seasoned speaker, trainer and workshop facilitator, I have spent many years developing my presentation skills, logging more than 2,500 hours of speaking and training delivery since 2004.

I would say that I am known for being a ‘no-nonsense’ consultant. When clients hire me, they know that I’m going to tell them what they NEED to hear, not what they WANT to hear.

At this moment, I’m most proud of working with two international corporations. I’m helping one develop a more innovative and risk-willing culture, and with the other, I’m supporting them as they roll out a new software worldwide – helping them to develop a culture that is open to change and willing to ask, “What am I willing to think differently about?”

I think what sets me apart from others in my field is that I consider the employees my primary customer, not necessary the CEO. Employees are a company’s greatest asset, and it’s easy to lose sight of that when all eyes are on ‘the bottom line’. When the focus shifts to the success of individual employees, everyone wins.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
It’s funny that you ask this. My proudest moment came recently when I was invited to a meeting with some global managers of one of my clients. I’m going to get to share with them the strategies I’m using to accomplish one of my projects within their company because they heard how successful it was.
