Meet Scott Bennett of Skratch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Bennett.

The founders of Skratch grew up worlds apart Scott in Dallas, Texas, and Ronen in Bat Yam, Israel. They grew in up in very different cultures. However, one thing they absolutely had in common was the value and importance they placed on first working experiences as they grew up.

Scott was often around his Grandfather’s handbag factory where products were manufactured and later he spent time in retail selling shoes. Like Scott, Ronen learned about work from his family as he spent time with his father, a shoemaker. He earned most of his money in his teenage years working as a photographer for special occasions like birthdays and weddings. Now, with teens of their own seeking work in a dispiriting market, the pair recognized a massive shift away from the importance and ability for teens to gain valuable work experience.

Skratch was created when Ronen’s son, Liam shared his own struggles to find work and expressed that traditional part-time employment no longer works for teens today. He realized that so many changing factors has made it almost impossible for teens to find a job. It was his inspiration that motivated Scott and Ronen to build this platform. Skratch is the engine that will create new opportunities for teens.

Scott and Ronen believe in young people and that they deserve the chance to learn to earn. They believe Skratch is the best teacher of financial literacy as it can teach income. The vision is to leverage technology while offering flexibility to help give teens the same opportunities that so many adults have today. That is working when, how and for who they want to while meeting the demands of their busy lifestyles.

Has it been a smooth road?
The story is to tell and the purpose of the business is clear. Over the past 10 years, people have become increasingly more comfortable with mobile devices and the various conveniences that come with apps. The challenge has been reminding society that teens and the people that may value their abilities need each other. Teen employment has been in decline for 40 years and for the past 2 decades it as if teens have not been looked to as productive workers. Educating a market and earning trust is the biggest hurdle that we jump over every day.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Skratch – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Skratch is a mobile platform that connects teens with local adult neighbors (and eventually businesses) to accomplish task-based work. The app provides streamlined payment, tracks history and creates a first resume for teen users. Skratch also validates performance, incorporates a two-way rating system, and offers the critical safety features to deliver safe transactions between parties.

Additionally, Skratch has done something nobody predicted. It has given “permission” for neighborhoods to engage their teenagers in an extremely positive and empowering way. By delivering income to teens we critical financial tools to help these first-time earners begin to manage income.

I am proud of the fact that we have been able to show teens that ambition starts early. I am proud of the fact that we committed ourselves to serving a broad market and reach teens in every situation. I think it is great that we can deliver a solid financial return and significant social return. The stories we hear from users are powerful.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like that Dallas has evolved and has true distinct neighborhoods each with a unique feel. I also think it has a great business community. I wish Dallas had more progressive “new economy” businesses and less traffic.
