Today we’d like to introduce you to Shae Norris.
Shae, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started off doing friends and classmates’ hair in high school after always getting compliments on my own hair. I was one of a few girls selected to attend the cosmetology program at south grand prairie high school in 2007. I quickly learned that this was a passion of mine while in the program. I was so determined that I actually became the second to reach my hours and pass both tests and the first to obtain a job in the field, all while still attending high school. I have been working in the field for over ten years now as a cosmetologist and opened my very first salon, The Slay Lounge in 2017.
I took a leap of faith after God placed ownership in my heart, and my business has been successful for three years now and growing each year! I wanted to provide a different atmosphere to industry professionals than what I experienced at salons. I wanted my salon to feel like home, a positive, uplifting environment to call home. I”m so grateful for how far my business has come! I have truly manifested a solid team of extremely talented industry professional that is willing to work together as a team and support one another. It’s only up from here!
Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all! Lol I had common struggles of building a clientele, perfecting my craft and knowing my worth in the beginning. Once I achieved all of these things and moved on to ownership, I had the struggles of building a team, maintaining a team, showing leadership but equality, running every piece of the business myself while still building my own personal brand, even just balancing the business and my personal life. For heaven’s sake, I endured a whole pregnancy while doing all of these things and still managed to go to school to obtain my instructor’s license. Nothing great comes easy, and anything worth having is worth working hard for.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Slay Lounge Salon – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
