Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheldon Moss, Michael Nelson, and Maurice Moss.
Sheldon, Michael, and Maurice, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Sheldon and Maurice are cousins. Mike and Maurice are friends from high school who have known each other for over 30 years. The common thread among all of us is music. We have slightly varied music tastes, but at our core we all love R&B. Mike and Sheldon lean more toward traditional jazz while Maurice likes mainstream and rock a little more. We have always enjoyed music conversations and Sheldon asked us if we would be interested in doing a podcast about music. The idea made perfect sense and Sheldon’s hobby is sound engineering, so the technical side was already covered. We got together and threw around some show ideas and made our first podcast in 2017 centered around protest music. We take ideas from long-running conversations about music as well as current events and create content for weekly podcasts.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The creation process has been pretty seamless. We have several creative friends in the Dallas area and the podcast has been an opportunity to showcase the talented people we know. We’ve also encountered all the talent we didn’t know was is Dallas and made new friends via the show. If there are struggles, I would say finding the time when we are all free on a weekly basis to get together and record is one of the challenges. We’d like more listeners of course, but I think we’re happy with a slow, organic build of fans. Building a solid community is a struggle.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Psychomusiclyricology Podcast – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We are a music podcast with a primary focus of the black music diaspora. We are, however, inclusive and vibe with anyone who is passionate about music. We are known for funny banter that often veers into conversation beyond music, but music is the lens through which we view a lot of issues going on in the world. We are not music experts and that’s what sets us apart. We are not always imparting new knowledge about music, but we ask questions that don’t always get a lot of attention. We’re all at or near 50 years old. That’s not a demographic that is well represented in the podcast space – particularly among men of color. That gives us a unique perspective within the podcasting platform.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We have big plans. Each of us has our own unique vision for the podcast. The more we do this, those ideas are beginning to gel together. We want to delve into everything from apparel to compilation albums. Finding partners with products and services that complement ours is our current endeavor. Festivals, listening parties, and pop-up events for mature crowds are also on our itinerary for future events.

Nice article about the best music podcast going! They speak to a demographic that is woefully underrepresented and speak on issues other podcasts won’t touch.
