Meet Shelly Wade of Beene and Company Salon in Hurst

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelly Wade.

Shelly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got my cosmetology license when I was 21, but I did hair and makeup long before that. I remember at nine years old teaching my friends how to use an eyelash curler. After I received my cosmetology license, I went to work at Neiman Marcus Salon, I apprenticed for a local salon for $4 an hour and then I went commission.

It was a lot of work and no money. I remember working 60 hour weeks, mostly sitting and waiting and by the time I bought all my products, I’d be lucky to make $50. So I got an opportunity to go lease in a salon with quite a few walk-ins. I worked long hours but it paid off. I built my clientele, then in 1999 my mother and I built Beene and Company Salon. It was one of the first fully private suite salons. It has 20 private suite s. I have a passion for bringing out a woman’s beauty to raise their self-esteem. I love doing hair extensions. Ive been certified in several different methods.

Tape ins, skin weft tape ins, hand-tied, micro links, I tip, keratin bond, micro bonds, hair integrated top pieces, and Microbeads, Ive been certified with these companies; great lengths, hotheads, babes, simplicity, easihair pro, hairdreams, glam seamless, mago by capelli, skw handtied extensions and natural beaded rows, I have two full-time assistants which are amazing.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was rough in the beginning, but God has blessed me immensely. It can also be hard on your self-esteem.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Beene and Company Salon – what should we know?
My mother and I opened our salon in 1999. It has 20 private suites. We were one of the first fully private salon suites. We have 22 stylists. A lot of our stylists have been with us since the beginning. I specialize in high-quality human hair extensions. We have helped women with alopecia, thinning hair or bad haircuts, not from me. Our salon is always, up to date, clean, and inviting. Momma Beene makes homemade cookies and treats and sometimes makes lunch for the clients and stylist.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My mother, Doyles Beene, My dad, Robert Beene, my husband Steve Wade, without them I may not have made it across the street! Every client that has walked through our doors. Some clients have become great friends and in some way, I learn something from every single one of them. Ive had a handful of clients who have really helped me with my walk with Christ and have been great moral mentors.
