Meet Sheridan Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheridan Smith.

Sheridan, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got my first camera, a Nikon D5300, as a gift from my dad when I was 16, but I would say that I didn’t truly start until I was 19. I was a photographer for my high school newspaper, but I always took photos for articles which didn’t allow me to dive into my creativity like the way that I feel I am now. I used to shoot in my free time but it was only every now and again. I shot more nature landscape photos than portraits, but I didn’t know my love for portraits until last summer. As I dove into portrait photography, I found my love for photoshop and just messing with images in a way that makes someone take a double-take. After finding my way with a static image, I’ve been exploring other avenues, such as videography and modeling. I honestly had always thought that art would only be a hobby for me, but creating and collaborating with other creatives is what really makes me happy.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Finding my way in the creative world has honestly never been easy, but it’s always rewarding. Sometimes I have creative blocks, or I don’t have the resources, or someone doesn’t show up, or whatever, but no matter what you do, there’s always going to be obstacles and it will always make me smile.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am known as a free-lance photographer and model, but I would say photography is more of my passion. I am known for portraits and photoshopped images that mess with the viewer’s usual perspective. I honestly think I fell in love with shooting portraits because I love meeting and collaborating with new people to bring a vision to life.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I honestly don’t think I would have done anything differently. I just want to continue building new relationships with all sorts of creatives and exploring new avenues of photography and videography.
