Meet Sherry Muldoon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherry Muldoon.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in an artist home but never felt I had a natural talent towards art. As an adult, a dear friend gave me a film camera and I was hooked. I had found a passion that I could not put down. From that point on I studied photography and found my passion for photographing children and newborns. Even before my son was born, I fell in love with capturing the fleeting innocence of childhood. I love photographing children because they are so authentic and what you see is what you get. I adore them for that!

Please tell us about your art.
I create heirloom printed artwork that my clients can cherish for years and pass down to their children. In this digital age, I feel that print is becoming a lost art form. So it’s super important to me that every client leaves my studio with finished artwork from their shoot. Love is what inspires any art form and a family’s love is the foundation of us as humans. I believe in creating evidence for our children that they existed as little souls and that we adored them when they were small. This tangible proof really elevates our children’s self-esteem and sense of belonging in this world.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
I pinch myself every day that I get to do what I love to do for a living. But being a profitable artist is lot of hard work and can sometimes seem like an oxymoron. Business takes a lot of non-artist traits such as organization, budgets, and logical thinking. A lot of artists, including myself, go into business with mixed beliefs about being able to create an income from art. The belief that I was given a purpose on this Earth as a photographer is what has sustained me through the trials of business. I truly believe I’m doing what I was meant to do. I enjoy coaching other inspiring photographers by offering workshops to help them get their businesses off the ground.
