Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Wolf and Brandon Kershner.
Designers Steve Wolf and Brandon Kershner collaborated to create a duo of products that were born from a unique approach that merges graphic design and furniture design by bringing together inspiration and elements from both worlds. This collaboration expanded into the opening of their own design studio dubbed, Karni.
Karni Studio’s first product duo, named Calamus, was inspired by Bauhaus design era elements found in graphic art, architecture and furniture design. Relationships between form and shape, and how they evoke different moods to the viewer were integrated into every aspect of the design. The diverse pairing of furniture and graphic design makes this unique and timeless design a standout piece.
The Calamus product pair is ideal for outdoor and indoor spaces due to the durable FSC grade A quality teak paired with Sunbrella Platform, Sunbrella’s new, plush chenille, contract performance fabric.
Karni Studio launched in January 2020 at AmericasMart Atlanta and Las Vegas Market, is exclusively distributed by Azzurro Living, a luxury driven outdoor furniture manufacturer.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Overall, we have found that combining graphic design and furniture design has been surprisingly smooth! These two disciplines are compatible and complement each other well. One of the biggest struggles was making sure we created something that would stand out in the world of furniture. We wanted to create something that could work both indoors and outdoors so finding the right balance between form and function was challenging.
