Sunny, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My husband and I opened ABC Fashion in 2006 because we didn’t like how most formal wear store offered a small selection of dresses and asked their customers to order their gowns just by looking at the catalog pictures. Instead, we opened a friendly one-stop formal wear store where the entire family can order their special event attire. Our customers love that they don’t have to go store-to-store because it saves them time and money.
I’m truly blessed because ABC Fashion has allowed me to express my creative side when I make and design beautiful dress accessories for our customers. We love participating in nationwide Fashion Shows, and we actually use our customers as the models because we think that they look beautiful and we love to show them off.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We’ve recently switched our eCommerce platform and redesigned our website a few months ago. It was a challenge because the information on our product pages didn’t transfer over smoothly, and for the last few months, we had to manually input all of the information. But the all of that hard work is worth it because we’re so happy about how the website turned out! Our new website is beautiful and so user-friendly that we have gotten online orders from different countries.
Please tell us about ABC Fashion.
We’re a formal wear store located in Grand Prairie, Texas. Our store is over 10,000 square feet, and we have 1,000s of dresses and over 400 Quinceanera gowns in-stock. We specialize in providing beautiful yet affordable formal wear attire for your entire party! We’re known for our custom-made Quinceanera packages, and Sunny is amazing and so creative at matching our customer’s dress to the table centerpiece, ribbon bouquet, doll & pillow set, etc. We’ve had customers drive for hours from all different states to order a gown and Quinceanera package from us.
A few years ago, a production company that made The Interview ordered a bunch of kids’ formal wear from our website, and it was awesome seeing our products in a movie! A year later, the same happened for Lifetime’s TV show, Unreal, and it was incredible seeing our formal dresses on TV!
What sets us apart from other local formal wear stores, especially Quinceanera boutiques is that we have the biggest selection of Quinceanera dresses in-stock – with over 400 sample gowns available. We’ve had customers tell us that they love our store because they can see and try on the gowns in-person. Our competitors don’t have the large selection we do, so they just make the customers look at the dress catalog. We believe that dress shopping is a fun and memorable experience that involves your family and friends – and you can’t do that by simply finding your dream dress from a catalog. And what sets us apart from our online competitors is that our business isn’t solely operated online, and we have an established brick-and-mortar store. I think that makes our website trustworthy because there are so many fake websites that sell counterfeit dresses. Our customers have shown us the counterfeit dresses that they ordered from an unreputable site, and they say that it’s not worth it because the dresses are so ugly, and they end up buying the authentic dress and spending more money.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Definitely redesigned our website sooner.
