Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Grayson Hill.
Susan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Overcoming obstacles became the new story of my life. First I overcame an abusive marriage. Second I overcame breast cancer. Third I overcame a career pivot, cross country move, and daily life without the village that had supported me at home. Now I am building a new career with three amazing companies – Toyota, FASTer Way and Norwex – in order to achieve my financial, fitness and personal goals. All while raising two strong and amazing teenage daughters as a single mom!
I want to inspire others to improve mindset, learn nutrition, love fitness, develop healthy habits, improve sleep, and have the energy to change their lives to the be the best version of themselves! And thus SGH Wellness was born! I have big plans for this platform over the coming months and years.
Has it been a smooth road?
Of course not. It is life we are talking about. But the most significant for me was the end of my 16-year marriage and the breast cancer diagnosis.
First my divorce, I found myself in a place I never expected and for a while, it knocked me off course. But I quickly realized that I was given the opportunity to write a new ending. And my daughters needed me. As a mom, you understand that children need you. They need you to be strong and keep things running as normally as possible. And that is exactly what I did. I picked myself up and focused on my girls and rebuilding our lives. And my divorce brought such peace and happiness to me. I use my experience to provide support and advice to other women who find themselves in a life unexpected.
I was about a year into the rebuilding process when I found the lump. I knew at the time that it was cancer but my PCP and I played around with it for a while hoping we were wrong. I got the official diagnosis right before Christmas of 2015. I had a great medical team, tremendous support in my Village, and I maintained a positive attitude thus I rang the bell signaling the end of treatment two years later. I am now 2.5 years cancer-free! I believe that breast cancer happened for me – not to me. I feel a calling from my soul and my heart to support and empower other breast cancer warriors to learn to love their new normal.
Tell us more about your work.
As I mentioned earlier, my new business is called SGH Wellness. By day I work at Toyota in the Travel and Event Services group at the North American Headquarters in Plano. I love working at Toyota. I love its focus on process improvement, respect for people, community impact, innovation and quality.
SGH Wellness is my way of giving back, inspiring others, and changing lives.
One way I am doing this is by being a certified FASTer Way to Fat Loss coach. The FASTer Way is the leading online digital nutrition and fitness program. We provide daily workouts, daily meal plans, and daily accountability. The FASTer Way was a game-changer for me and allowed me to regain my confidence, improve my mindset, and transform my body post breast cancer.
Another way I am changing lives is through my role as a Norwex sales consultant. I love helping others choose safe, effective products that help reduce chemicals in their homes so their families stay healthier. I will never know how I got breast cancer but I can guarantee that chemicals in our products and food played a part.
I plan to continue to grow SGH with additional content and services that are aligned with my passion of changing lives! God doesn’t call on those equipped but He calls you and equips you. I know that the obstacles that I faced after honestly living an idyllic life for 34 years equipped me with the experiences necessary to inspire and change lives.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Dallas. I came here every other week for four years in my previous job before my career pivot and move in February 2018.
I am a sports lover so I love having a variety of professional and college teams to cheer for and attend games.
I love all the growth (might be in the minority here) that is happening. It is an exciting time to live in Dallas but that comes with what I love least about Dallas – TRAFFIC!
I love the growing and diverse food scene.
I love having a warmer winter coming from the midwest. I am not sure I will ever love the summer! So hot!
