Today we’d like to introduce you to Tabitha Jackson.
Tabitha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have moved around my entire life, and photographs where the main thing I could hold on to, they were snapshots of my life, and the memories, and experiences I had. I did not know I wanted to be a photographer until my sophomore year of college (2011). No experience and I honestly did not even know what I was doing but all I knew is that I enjoyed every moment when I had my camera in hand.
That is where my journey in Photography all started, just as a hobby, and then I realized I could make this “hobby” into an actual career. My husband was super supportive of me when it came to creativity, even when he was forced to be my model to practice on, and I am sure he can tell you that felt endless. I took several classes learning my skill, but where I really learned was by others who inspired me and me actually going out in the world and failing. Yep, you heard that right. I failed at so many things when it came to business or even properly shooting photos but that is where I learned the most. Now I travel a little bit each year for shoots and absolutely love what I am doing.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My photography journey has not been smooth, there have been amazing parts and then some really hard times. I think truly valuing my worth was so hard for me. I struggled a lot with the business side of things so my brain just wants to just create and just give. As a small business, you will not survive if you do not charge your time and worth, so I definitely continue every year to go to a solid business workshop for creatives and stay current with changes that are made. I want the experience for my clients to be the best thing they have experienced as well as being able to keep my doors open and flourishing.
One of the biggest struggles is not feeling overwhelmed by work. There are so many tedious things that need to be done running a business, and so easily I tend to look at my list and just feel a little hopeless. When this happens, I tend to sit down and pray and that helps me realize that even if I do not get everything done, that does not take away from my worth as an individual.
Tabitha Jackson Photography – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company is Tabitha Jackson Photography. I am a nationally published Senior Photographer that specializes in High School Senior Photography and small intimate Weddings. I am known for the experience and creativity that I bring to the table with each individual client. I am so proud of my company for getting this far and keeping real to myself the entire time. I really think that being myself, very transparent, honest and down to earth really sets me apart. I am always so open with my clients about what to expect and I am still very professional even when I am my silly self.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I believe that success looks different for everyone. Success to me is setting myself up for realistic goals (short term and long term) and going out and accomplishing them. Even if I am running across the finish line or barely crawling to the end of the goal, not giving up when it is tough, especially when I fail the first time, is a success.
