Meet TJ Mac

Today we’d like to introduce you to TJ Mac.

TJ, before we jump into specific questions about your music, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Waco, Texas but moved around the DFW area throughout my childhood. I’ve always had a love and passion for poetry and writing since grade school but I didn’t start making music until my senior year in high school. At first it was kind of a hobby but didn’t fully take it seriously until after I graduated in 2016. For a while I had trouble finding my own sound, releasing songs and a mixtape up until two years ago when I met my roommate now who’s a producer/engineer. He’s helped me find my sound as an artist and has been working with me on a project that I feel is very phenomenal and different from what listeners are used to nowadays. The album is called “New Me OLD HABITS” which is about recognizing your demons or negative parts of self and progressing past them into a better person. We’ve been working on it for about two years which is set to be released either late 2020 or early 2021. We are a part of a collective called Hippie Hood and AGE Recordings, which consists of myself, my roommate (DdavinciPainted It) a few other artists and producers such as Floral Decorum, Vyse, Colebain and SudeepRead who are out of Fort Worth.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The struggles weren’t that much different from anybody else’s. Came from a family who lacked wealth and money but have always been provided the necessities of living. Been homeless before and have struggled with anxiety but nothing I couldn’t handle.

Please tell us about your music.
I am an artist/producer/songwriter. The thing that sets me apart is my sound. Nowadays you have people who sound like somebody you’ve heard or people that bite other styles. The music industry today lacks originality which I feel like I bring to the table. From flows to beats to production my team and I bring something new and fresh, which I know will be recognized once light is shined on it.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
SudeepRead my manager/ close friend has guided me and helped me on the business side of things. Ddavinci who is my roommate, has helped a great deal with me finding my sound and pushing me to do better as an artist.
