Meet Tamara Channel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Channel.

Tamara Channel, the designer of Uneek Dzynes, has been a Mixed Media Artist for over 20 years. She creates 3-dimensional projects with an artistic collision of media such as textures, acrylics, wax, stencils, paper, metal findings, molding, and even fashion. She started her journey in mixed media art back in 2000, where she created flower arrangements with faux flowers and potpourri, created custom cards and invitations, and altered Paper Mache objects. Some of her work includes enhancing and embellishing old and new photos on a canvas and creating timeless memorabilia for special occasions such as gifts for various cancer survivors, bridal canvases, and family trees. In 2018, added Lit Hattas to the brand, which is Lit Hattas is a collection of festival mixed media art-wear created by Tamara “Madam Hatta” Channel. Each hat is intricately handcrafted with a focus on making a statement and supporting the fundamental human rights of freedom of expression. The art wear consists of bamboo hats, captain hats, marching band hats, and even mohawks.

After the loss of her mother, in 2020, Tamara pushed through the pain and added another sub-brand to Uneek Dzynes. Her latest work is the first Curves of a Feather’s “Here Is Where I Am” line dedicated to my mother. Each name represents the characteristics of my mother. Her PATIENCE for others was remarkable. Her love had so much PURITY, she had an abundance of COMPASSION, she showed me how to have SELF LOVE, she fought for her life as a WARRIOR, she believed in the pleasures of life and led us in CELEBRATION. She ordered that there would be PEACE in her home and family and I believe she is resting in it now if she is not smiling at her JOY.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth? No, it has been a bumpy road but worth every second. The products that I create are not for everyone but there is something for everyone! After I identified my ideal clients and knew exactly who I was targeting my products to, the challenges I faced and still face are identifying where my target audience is and how I could effectively market my products that include custom hats, masks and costumes. Since the consumer market is saturated with all types of products and brands that currently grab the attention of millions of consumers, it can be a challenge to challenge potential customers to think outside of the box and try a new product. On several occasions, customers have made the statement, “That’s a beautiful piece but I do not know where or when would I wear that?” My response has been, Create the moment, live in it, and let my company embellish it, hence the slogan, “Let us embellish your moments.”

We’d love to hear more about your work.
The Uneek Dzynes brand houses three sub-brands: Boraq Phacez, an assortment of Venetian inspired masks, masquerade masks, political/civil rights masks, and cause and awareness masks. Lit Hattas, an assortment of hand-crafted captain hats, band hats, conical hats, top hats, cowboy hats, and other hats. Curves of a Feather is an exotic line of carnival costumes and headpieces, headdresses and crowns.

Tamara’s brands support the fundamental human rights of freedom of expression and use the Uneek Dzynes brands to dare her clients to go against the grain and not conform to the norm. Uneek Dzynes can be found on the front cover of Fleekque magazine and other publications. Tamara has also been the opening designer and headliner for several fashion shows. The slogan “Let us embellish your moments!” encourages her clients to live colorfully in their own moment while Uneek Dzynes creates and designs it. Her work can be found on Facebook or Instagram @uneekdzynes, @lithattas and @curvesofafeather. Website uneekdzynes.com (coming soon).

What makes me proud is the customer satisfaction, reactions, repeat customers, and referrals. What sets Uneek Dzynes apart from others is that our clients are our canvas. We create wearable art that can be worn or used to accent our client’s home.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I do not believe in luck. I believe in faith and what is already designed. We all have a life assignment and I am a natural leader. That role has pushed me to be successful in my personal and professional life.
