Meet Tamara Ray of Not Just Alphabets Curriculum in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Ray.

Tamara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Me and my husband opened The Little People Academy in May 2014. I started making weekly lesson plans for my teachers because I couldn’t find a curriculum that included more than letters and numbers. Of course, there are thousands of online curriculum programs but it wasn’t cost efficient and I felt the workbooks were outdated. I never intended to create a book from my lesson plans or share it with the world but here we are. A lot of people ask what I do for my children to be so bright and now I am sharing it with the world. “Not Just Alphabets Curriculum” was first tested on my son and he was two years old at the time. He mastered his letter recognition and letter sounds at just two years old and I was amazed at how he enjoyed it. I started sampling the curriculum with my daycare students and tutor students and also seen great results. Recently, I went to the State Capital in Austin to share my book with board members and educators and they loved it and I’m super excited to have it in print to share with the world!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been pretty smooth because I actually love what I do! I have enjoyed watching my children thrive and learn in a fun way. My biggest struggle was tweaking my curriculum as my other two children were born because all children learn differently. The end result has been more than worth it as you can now use my book for auditory, visual and kinesthetic learners.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Not Just Alphabets Curriculum – what should we know?
I am a curriculum developer and my company is unique because it encompasses five key elements (letters, numbers, colors, shapes, and food). Most curriculum’s are two maybe three area focused so you have to supplement with another program. There is a one time fee with my company versus monthly fees that most companies charge. Once my book is purchased the buyer will be able to see children aged 2-5 actually complete my curriculum through social media and email me any questions they have.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most important key to my success is my endless devotion to children and education. If a child doesn’t have a strong educational foundation, it sets them up for failure. I vow to help every child I encounter become a great student!
